# Curare

## Keynote Indications
An arrow poison used by South American Indians, Curare affects the muscles and brain. It 
is a muscular poison, causing paralysis of muscles without impairing the sensations and consciousness.  
Muscular paralysis without impairing any sensation or consciousness. It causes death by paralysis of the 
respiratory muscles. Reflex action is diminished or abolished. In many ways, its action is opposite that of 
Nux-v. 
Paralysis, facial, mouth, threatening respiration. Catalepsy. Trismus. Nervous debility. Sensation as if the brain 
were full of fluid. As of a heavy weight hung to th e limbs. Weakness, heaviness, numbness, numbness with 
tingling. Piercing, sharp pains. Throbbing pains. 
Debility of the aged (Bar -c.) and from loss of fluids. Glycosuria with motor paralysis. Diabetes mellitus. 
Decreases the output of adrenalin. Vomiting o f bile in cirrhosis of liver. Fetid discharges. Leprosy. Many 
symptoms appear on right side.

## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations)
Worse from motion. Worse walking. Worse ascending, 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Worse from 
dampness. Worse cold weather, cold wind. Worse change of weather.

## Symptoms by System

### Mind
- Indecision, no longer wishes to think or act for herself.
- Inability to think or study, forgetful, stupid, 
sleepy, indolent.
- Excited, hurried feeling.
- Depressed, desire to be alone.
- Abdomen - Weary ache from throat 
to left hip.
- Neuralgic pain in hypogastrium with pressure in vagina.
- Pain in groin low down with heaviness in 
limbs while walking.
- Bowels feel sore and bruised.
- Indecision, no longer wishes to think or act for herself.
- Inability to think or study, forgetful, stupid, 
sleepy, indolent.
- Excited, hurried feeling.
- Depressed, desire to be alone.

### Vertigo
- Instant giddiness, falling in swoon while standing or walking.
- Dizzy when looking at near objects or

- COMMENTS - Causes death by paralysis of the respiratory muscles.
- Reflex action is diminished or abolished 
(opp.
- Nux-v.).
- Catalepsy, immobility with fixed gaze on waking.
- Indicated by debility short of pa ralysis, the 
debility of the aged and nervous, and debility from the loss of fluids.
- Fetid odor of secretions and discharges.
- It favors the formation of corns.
- Its relation to hydrophobia and tetanus 
is probably antipathic.
- Used allopathically in tetanus treatments.
- A cure of a pseudo -hypertrophic paralysis by the 200c was recorded.
- Two cases of diabetes in middle -aged 
men have been cured by Burkhardt with Cur.

- Grimmer noted that it is useful for cancer with weakness and a tendency to faint, ex treme debility, difficult 
breathing, vertigo with fainting.
- States of catalepsy, worse by exercise, walking, etc., worse in dampness.

### Head
- Head drawn backward.
- Rush of blood to head.
- Brain feels full of fluid.
- Head confused, great weight in 
vertex.
- Head beats like a hammer, with vomiting of bile.
- Nervous headache.
- Sharp pains all over head.
- Falling 
out of hair.
- Head drawn backward.

### Eyes
- Sharp, stitching pains over right eye.
- Ptosis of right side.
- Heavy eyes, lids can hardly be kept open.

- Feel as if full of sticks.
- Red, hot, sensitive to light.
- Black spots before vision, especially 
worse from reading.

### Ears
- Otitis interna, driving crazy.
- Noises, unbearable earache.
- Purulent discharge.
- Swelling of lobes of ear.
- Sharp pains start from ears, extending down to legs.

### Face
- Facial and mouth paralysis.
- Paralysis of muscles of expression.
- Aching right side of face.
- Tongue and 
mouth drawn.
- Red face.

### Mouth
- Mouth dry.
- Tongue and mouth drawn to right.
- Tongue coated.
- On waking, tongue yellowish at base, 
papillae raised, light pink anteriorly, yellow-white, bitter or bloody taste.
- Nose - Nasal catarrh.
- Ozaena, fetid lumps of pus.
- Tubercles on nose.

### Throat
- Burning heat in throat with sensation of distention.

### Chest
- Sore to pressure or touch.
- Constitutions - Suited to scrofulous chi ldren, producing scrofulous eruptions on skin, eczema, especially of 
face and behind ears, and yellow brown liver-spots.
- Precordial pain, anguish with palpitations and stinging pains in heart.
- Kidneys - Digging, crampy pain in kidneys, dry mouth, great thirst.
- Urine copious, ur gent, bladder feels 
distended.
- Clear and frequent urine.
- Sugar in urine, great emaciation (acute diabetes).
- Severe pains in lungs, especially left.
- Shortness of breath.
- Threatened paralysis of the respiration 
on falling asleep.
- Very distressing dyspnea.
- Dyspnea, stitching pains right side.
- Dyspnea, worse ascending.
- Short, dry, hacking cough, provokes vomiting, followed by fainting.
- Dry cough with soreness of chest walls.
- Cough, worse breathing cold air, laughing, moving, eating.
- Cough troublesome in morning.

### Stomach & Abdomen
- Empty, gone feeling in stomach.
- Sharp pain in pit of stomach, followed by nausea.
- Shooting in 
stomach.
- Heartburn, pain and distent ion after eating ever so little.
- Chill after eating.
- Nausea in morning after 
eating.
- Vomits green bile all night.
- Frequent and annoying hiccoughs.
- Temperature - Chill, creeping up back without thirst.
- Body blue, and yet fever.
- Heat worse at night and in open 
air.
- Sweat 
with every exertion.
- Sweat, cold and bloody, especially at nights.
- Thirst and great hunger with fever.
- Sudden hunger almost to faintness.
- Better after first mouthful of 
food.
- Aversion to bread.
- Great thirst especially evening and night.
- Craves acids.

### Urinary & Genital
- Menses too early.
- During menses, colic, headache and kidney pain.
- Dys menorrhea.
- Leucorrhea,  
thick, purulent offensive, in clots.
- Bearing-down, dragging, tired, in all pelvic organs.
- Vaginitis.
- Griping in right 
ovary.
- Ulcerations of os uteri, scirrhus.
- Aversion to sex.

### Extremities
- Paralysis of limbs, burning with 
heat and chills.
- Aching in all the limbs and body.
- Numbness and tingling.
- Debility, paralysis.
- Catalepsy.
- Reflexes lessened or abolished.
- Arms weak, heavy.
- Cannot lift the fingers.
- Weakness of hands and fingers 
in pianists.
- Legs tremble, give way in walking.
- Favors development of corns.

### Neck & Back
- Tired pain up and down spine.
- Stiffness in neck, head drawn back.
- Stiffness of muscles or right neck 
and shoulder.
- Dull, tired ache in shoulders and across back, numb.
- Chills running up back and all over body.

### Skin
- Leprosy.
- Dirty-looking skin.
- Itching, with hunger.
- Eczema.
- Liver-spots.
- Boils.
- Tubercles on nose.
- Blood 
oozes through.

### Sleep
- Drowsy, cannot keep awake.
- Nights restless, always desiring to put feet out of bed, especially towards 
morning.
