According to Froriep, the juice instilled  into the eye causes amaurosis. The odor of the 
flowers, left in a room for two days, caused many remarkable symptoms including spasms.  
While cutting and handling the flowers, there was depletion of the nervous circulation in the medulla oblongata. 
Cerebellum and a spinal irritation. 
Sensation as if forehead were expanded. Headache. Heartburn. Burning sensation around cardiac end of 
stomach, extending to esophagus, with sense of constriction. Heat and fullness over liver region.
