## Keynote Indications
Digitalis is a heart remedy, but also affects the liver, lungs, stomach and genito -urinary 
organs. Dig. should be considered in all diseases where the heart is chiefly involved with abnormally slow, 
irregular or intermittent pulse, along with indefinite and causeless symptoms. 
Weakness and dilation of the myocar dium. Indicated in failure of compensation. Auricular flutter 
andfibrillation, especially when subsequent to rheumatic fever. Use ful for people with side effects from the 
digitalis drug. 
Symptoms of organic heart disease, such as great weakness and sinking of strength, faintness, coldness of 
skin and irregular respiration, cardiac irritability. Faint, as if dying. Bluish appearance of face. Cardiac 
 
 
muscular failure when systole is present. Stimulates the heart's muscles, increases force of systole, increases 
length. 
Heart blockage with a very slow pulse. The pulse is weak, irregular intermittent, abnormally slow  and 
dropsy of external 
Digitalis purpurea and internal parts. Slow pulse in rec umbent posture, but irregular and dicrotic on sitting 
up. Irregular pulse. Pulse can be slow or it can be intermittent. Slow pulse with menopause, puberty, or after 
sexual abuse. 
Congestive heart failure, especially in el derly people with dizziness and ri nging in the ears. Tightness of the 
chest and weak heart. Constriction of the chest (Cact.). Weary feeling and their limbs feel heavy (Gels., Con.). 
Fluttering of the heart (Nat-m.). High blood pressure, with kidney involvement or prostate problems. 
Sense of suffocation, a fear of suffocation relating to a weak heart. Sinking feeling in the stomach with heart 
palpitations. Faintness. Sensation as i fhe would die if he moves during the palpitations. Great weakness, 
can hardly talk, sinking of strength. Collapse. Prostration from slight exertion. 
As of an electric shock going through the body. Cyanosis. Must walk about, with precordial anxiety, with urging 
to urinate. Dropsy with suppression of urine. Jaundice from induration and hypertrophy of the liver. Jaundice 
with heart disease. Tongue is blue and clean, thick and flabby. Eye troubles after tobacco.

erect. Better rest. Better in open air, cool air. Worse from lying on left side. Worse sitting erect. Worse being

Worse from food. Worse smell of food. Worse cold food or drinks, alcohol. Worse after meals. Worse music. 
Worse from cold air, cold weather. Worse changes of weather. Worse heat. Worse night. Worse waking in the 
morning.

- Constant dizziness with ringing in ears.

- Vertigo as if faintness would occur.

- Loss of vision and many symptoms with anemia of retina and optic 
nerve.
- Hemiopia, as if upper part of field of vision were covered by a dark cloud.
- Optical illusions in bright or 
prismatic colors.
- COMMENTS - Slow, weak, irregular and intermittent pulse.
- Acute cyanosis (Carb -v.).
- Palpitations, with hot 
flashes.
- Prostration from slight exertion.
- Restlessness with a great nervous weakness.
- Lassitude, mental and 
bodily.
- Faintness.
- Convulsions with re traction of head, syncope and collapse.
- His tory of helping reduce or 
control aneurysm.
- Vertigo, dizziness as if intoxicated.
- Pneumonia and pleurisy.
- Senile pneumonia.
- Asthmatic sufferings as from hydrothorax.
- Respiration is painfully 
restricted at night, when lying down or in the day, when walking or seated.
- In the morning, suffocating 
constriction of the chest, forcing the patient to rise up in the bed.
- Delirium tremens in high livers, stomach and liver diseases with the mental state of the drug.
- Enlarged, sore, 
and painful liver.
- Deathly sinking in the epigastrium.
- Every shock, like bad news, strikes her in the epigastrium.
- Portal engorgement.

Ross regarded the indications as being: “dry cough with mucus rales and no expectoration or only "prune juice' 
expectoration, cyanosis, cold limbs, feeble  intermittent pulse, deathly nausea or gone sensation at 
epigastrium.” 
Malcolm Macfarlan reported Dig.
- having produced severe urethritis, phimosis and strangury.
- He cured with it 
many cases of gonorrhea.
- Ballard cured a man of headache and dizziness, originating probably in gonorrhea suppressed several years 
before.
- He complained of feeling bad about the head after drinking and this keynote symptom was elicited: 
“after drinking cold water the pain would seat itself in the forehead and extend down the nose.”

### Head
- Face bluish.
- Dullness of head as from intoxication, with increased mental activity.
- Heaviness of head 
with sensation as if it would fall backward.
- Brain feels fatigued and weak, from weak action of heart.
- Confusion, fullness and noises in head.

### Ears
- Otalgia with contractive pains in the ears.
- Swelling of the parotids and behind the ear.

- Hissing before the ears like boiling water, with hardness of hearing.

### Face
- Paleness of the face.
- Cyanosis.
- Blue color of the lips and eyelids.
- Bluish swelling  of the lips.
- Dryness 
of the lips.
- Eruptions on the lips.
- Eruptions with gnawing itching in the cheeks and in the chin.
- Cramp -like and 
drawing pains in the cheekbones.
- Distended veins.
- Pores of the face black and suppurating.

### Mouth
- Soreness of mouth, gums and tongue.
- Aphthae.
- Stomatitis.
- Bitter taste.
- Taste flat, clammy, slimy.
- Sweet taste, with constant salivation.
- Copious salivation.
- Salivation after smoking tobacco.
- Scraped feeling in 
mouth.
- Severe toothache in a hollow tooth.
- Nose - Coryza with hoarseness.
- Pain at the root of the nose, after vomiting.
- Nosebleeds.
- Perspiration - Cold, clammy sweat.
- Copi ous sweat at night.
- Perspiration after the chill, no heat intervening.
- Sweats on upper part of body, on face.
- Sweats during cough.
- Covered with copious perspiration, without relief 
of heart symptoms.
- Cold sweat, on body, warm on palms of hands.

### Throat
- Scraped feeling in throat.
- Sting ing in throat between acts of swallowing.
- Choking when he tries to 
swallow.
- Spasm of glottis with di arrhea and thirst.
- Edema of larynx.
- Frequent painless hoarseness.
- Hoarseness in early morning.
- Tongue - Blue tongue and lips.
- Tongue blue, thick, flabby.

### Chest
- Angiria pectoris.
- Great weakness in chest, can't bear to talk.

- Constitutions - Nervous lymphatic constitutions.
- Children with very pale complexions, light hair, scrofulous.
- Cough - Dry cough, on deep inspiration.
- Cough followed by great prostration.
- Cough after eating, with vomiting 
of food.
- Cough causes pain in shoulders and arms or sore , raw feeling in the chest.
- Cough from suppressed 
menses.
- Hemoptysis with weak heart or from chronic bronchitis, before menses.
- Hollow, deep, spasmodic 
cough, excited by roughness and scratching in palate and in trachea.
- Sinking feeling at heart.
- Sudden sensation as if heart stood still.
- Sensation as if heart would cease 
beating if he moves, must hold the breath and keep still (opposite of Gels.).
- Precordial anxiety, with sensation 
of weakness in forearm.

### Stomach & Abdomen
- Discomfort in stomach, even after a small quantity of food, or from mere sight or smell.
- Burning in 
stomach and into esophagus.
- Faintness, great weakness in stomach.
- Extreme anxiety in pit causing 
frequent deep sighs.
- Epi- 
gastric region tender.
- Neuralgic pain in stomach.
- Stomach burning, extending to esophagus.
- Gulping up of 
an acrid or tasteless fluid.
- Deathly nausea, with faint sinking in stomach.
- Persistent nausea and vomiting 
with clean tongue (Ip.).
- Excessive nausea, not better vomiting.

### Urinary & Genital
- Dropsical swelling of genitals (Sulph.).
- Prostate enlarged, in elderly men.
- Hydrocele (left), scrotum 
looks like a bladder filled with water.
- Testicles swollen.
- Bruise-like pain in testes with swelling.
- Contusive pain 
in right testicle.
- Balanitis with edema of prepuce.
- Gonorrhea (Med.).
- Profuse, thick, yellow-white gonorrheal 
 
 
discharge.
- As if something were running out in urethra after emis sion.
- Irritation of sexual organs, with painful 
erections, night and day.
- Desire stro ngly excited, frequent erections and pollutions.
- Atonic nightly emissions 
after sex.
- Spermatorrhea.
- Pollutions always with lewd dreams and subsequent pains in penis.
- Early morning 
erections.
- Sexual desire without ability.
- Menses scanty and too  late.
- Labor-like pains in abdomen and back before menses.

### Extremities
- Rheumatic pain in joints.
- Swelling of the feet.
- Sensation as if a red -hot wire suddenly darted 
through legs.
- Stinging pains in muscles of upper and lower limbs.

- Shini ng, white 
swelling of joints.
- Muscular debility.
- Numbness, heaviness or paralytic weak ness, worse left arm.
- Fingers 
become numb easily and frequently.
- Coldness of hands and feet.
- One hand hot, the other cold.
- Nails blue.
- Fingers swell at night.
- Liver - Enlarged, sore, painful liver.
- Soreness over region of liver, with jaundice.
- Liver, hard and painful.
- Jaundice from induration.

### Neck & Back
- Stiffness and tension of the muscles of the neck and of the nape of the neck.
- Drawing pains in the back 
and in the loins, as after a chill.
- Bruise-like pains in the loins on blowing the nose.
- Tearing, sharp, ach ing and 
cutting pains, in neck.
- Lacerating, and sharp pains in lumbar region.
- Bladder - Cystitis, after passing a few drops the desire to urinate is increased and the patient walks about in 
great distress.
- Urethritis, phimosis, strangury.
- Full feeling after urination.
- Urine, suppressed.
- Sharp cutting 
or throbbing pain at neck of bladder.
- Difficult urination.
- Pain, as if a straw was being thrust back and forth, 
worse at night.
- Constriction and burning, as if urethra was too small.
- Dragging in bladder as if distended, not 
better frequent urination.
- Contractive pain in bladder, during urination.
- Urine more easily retained in recumbent 
position.
- After urination pressure in bladder and burning in urethra.
- Breasts - Shuddering at the breasts.
- Causations - Ill effects of high living, sexual abuse or excessive alcohol intake.

### Skin
- Dry, arid heat of skin.
- Paleness of the skin.
- Cyanosis.
- Bluish skin particularly at the eyelids, lips tongue 
and nails.
- Blue distended veins.
- Cold skin.
- Dropsy.
- Elastic white swelling of whole body.
- Itching and 
jaundiced.
- Gnawing itching increasing to intolerable burning pricking.
- Corrosive itching.
- Erythema, deep red, 
worse on back like measles.
- Measly eruptions on back.
- Sebaceous follicles ulcerate.
- Skin painful to touch.
- Desquamation of the skin.

### Sleep
- Lethargy.
- Continuous sleepiness.
- Drow sy in the day.
- Unrefreshing, agitated sleep.
- Somnolency 
interrupted by fits of convulsive vomiting.
- Uneasy sleep at night on account of constant desire to urinate.
- Frequent waking, as from anxiety.
- Nightmares.
- Starts from sleep in alarm that he is falling from a height in a 
dream.
- Dreams of falling from a height or into water.
- Dreams with jerking and electric like sensations through 
the body.

### Generalities
- As if the heart would stand still if he moved, must hold the breath and keep still (Gels, has “must 
keep moving or the heart would stop”).
- As if heart had torn itself loose and were swaying to and fro by a thin 
thread.
- As if the lungs were constricted and tied up in bundles.
- As if the stomach would sink into abdomen.

if something were running out of urethra, as of a weight attached to stomach, as if the internal parts were
