## Keynote Indications
First introduced by Hale, Gelsemium belongs to the same order of plants as Nux -v. and 
Cur., and ranks among the vegetable polycrests. Like its botanical relatives. Gels, is a great paralyzer. Mental 
 
 
and bodily paresis. Sluggish mind. Relaxed muscular system, limbs feel so heavy he can hardly move them.  
Functional paralysis of all descriptions, of various groups of muscles. Various degrees  of motor paralysis. 
Ptosis in the eye muscles and diplopia. Loss of the ability to swallow. Diarrhea from depressing emotions or 
bad news. Post-diphtheria paralysis. 
Muscular weakness,  lack of muscular coordination. In muscles, especially in the limbs, it  causes 
overpowering aching, tiredness, heaviness, weakness and sore ness. General prostration and complete 
relaxation. 
Dizziness, drowsiness and trembling. Tremors  or twitchings of single muscles, face, chin tongue etc. 
Hysterical convul sions. Chorea of pregnancy. Parkinson’s disease. Body feels light in nervous, hys terical 
subjects. 
Mental prostration, anxiety. Lassitude (Mur-ac.), but the patient does not express it. Slow pulse, tired feeling. 
Apathetic and dull. Circulation becomes sluggish, causing arterial or venous congestion with sense of fullness 
and heaviness in different organs. 
Coma and strokes. Alternate pelvic organ symptoms with head symptoms. Debility after seminal discharges, 
great prostration from irritability of seminal vesicles. Ca tarrh of mucus membranes with watery discharges. 
Influenza with malaise. Never well since influenza. Measles. Pellagra. 
Wants to lie down quietly, half reclined, wants to be held. Children have a fear of fall ing, they can grab the 
nurse or crib (Bor.). 
General depression from heat of sun. Cold and dampness brings on many complaints. Effects of bad news, 
anger, grief when accompanied by trembling and fatigue. Drug overdose. Nervous disorders from tobacco.

- Nankivell drank two ounces of tincture of Gels, instead of a gla ss of sherry.

assistance and in another minute his legs were paralyzed.

- Erskine White cured an infant born in convulsions three weeks after its mother had been terribly frightened by 
seeing her little brother nearly burnt to death.
- The only guiding symptom was “the child's chin quiveredincessantly.” In thirty seconds after the dose the 
quivering ceased, in three minutes the convulsions were at an end.
- White had to ride twelve miles over mountains to reach the patient after receiv ing the summons, so the 
convulsions must have lasted a considerable time.
