## Keynote Indications
ACuban remedy forfevers, especially malarial. An alkaloid, Parthenia, was isolated by C. J. 
Ulrice of Havana; and Dr. J. '.. Duenas published experiments with this on humans and animals.  
In the proving, the pains were sudden, congestive, out -pushing. Pains in the head and ears. Singing and 
fullness in the ears. Heaviness and dullness of head. Tendency to vertigo. Malaise, apathy, lassitude. Stupor, 
desire to be quiet. Indifference. 
Profuse and very fluid salivation. Sensation of heat and weight in the stomach. Increased appetite, or refusal 
of food. Gastric intolerance, nausea and vomiting. Increased flow of milk. Amenorrhea and general debility. 
Cheyne- Stokes breathing. After-effects of quinine. Antidotal action to quinine.

## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations)
Better after rising and walking about. Worse after sleep, from sudden motion.

- Sleight proved increasing doses of the tincture and, later on, of 6x, which 
reproduced most of the symptoms of the first proving.
- Fornias reported the case of his niece, 5, living in Havana, who had been suffering from a continued fever with 
periodical midday exacerbations, which later on as sumed an intermittent form.
- She had been saturated with 
quinine and complained at the time of malaise, lassitude, headache, gastric intolerance, etc.

- Govantes prescribed an extract of Parth., three do ses a day, each the size of a pea.
- In four or five days 
she was free from fever and made a quick recovery.

- Ramirez Tovar reported several cures by Parth.
- The first was a woman living in the lower part of the city, 
where the rain left channels of infection, who had daily attacks of intermittent, more intense each day.
- One grain of the alkaloid was divided into six powders, one every hour after the attack.
- No further attacks.

patient was nursing at the time and she noticed a marked increase of milk in  the breasts.
- Half a grain divided 
into five doses completed the cure.
- In the second case, a tailor, 30, moved to a lower part of the city and contracted tertian intermittent, the fourth 
seizure being attended with much pain in the left hypochondrium.
- One grain in five doses cured, though the 
conditions were unchanged.
- (The removal of this left hypochondriac pain is important in connection with 
Burnett's experience with Helia.) 
The third case was a girl, 6, lymphatic, who lived near the harbor, ill for seventeen days with malaise, loss of 
appetite, sleepiness and fever.
- She had quinine internally and externally, and was wasting visibly.

In his fourth case, Tovar noted a ma n, 45 of delicate constitution, poorly nourished, straw -yellow face, yellow 
sclerotics, enlarged liver and spleen, spleen painful to pressure.
- He had a fever in Panama, had taken quinine, 
complained of a pain in right side, which commenced 1 p.m.
- with shi verings, disappeared in two hours and 
returned at precisely the same hour the next day.
- Five doses of ten centigrams each removed the pain.
- About six weeks later there was a relapse, the pain this 
time being located in the stomach.
- One grain in five doses,  one dose every two hours, removed the pain, but 
it returned the third day.
- The same treatment then removed it permanently.
- The fifth case concerned a young woman, 18, who had periodical facial neuralgia, cured by the same 
treatment.

- Headaches, extending to nose, pain in frontal eminence.

### Ears
- Sharp pain in ears.
- Stabbing pain in left ear.
- Du llness and aching in ears, coming suddenly.

at lobe of left ear, deep in and above external auditory meatus.
- Tinnitus, ringing in ears, worse left.

### Face
- Seems as if bloods would burst through face.
- Bursting pain in right malar bone.
- Aching pains run up 
from above left eye-tooth to eye and over face, occurs by starts and stops.

### Mouth
- Tingling in tip of tongue.
- Profuse, very fluid salivation.
- Nose - Pain at root of nose, in nose, in bones of nose, worse left.
- Stuffed feeling at root of nose, as with dry 
coryza.
- Nose feels swollen and tender to touch.
- Aching in bridge of nose ( worse left side) and of upper left 
molars.
- Aching at end of nose, which feels full of blood.

### Chest
- Excited heartbeat.
- Progressive slowness of pulse, followed by syncope, cardiac paralysis and death.
- Pulse slow, soft compressible.
- Kidneys - Kidneys enlarged and congested.
- Increased urine.
- Slow, irregular, breathing.
- Cheyne- Stokes.

### Stomach & Abdomen
- Emptiness sensation in epigastrium, hunger.
- Heat and weight in stomach.
- Irrepressible, tasteless 
belchings.
- Belch- ings tasting of the drug.
- Teeth - Teeth feel on edge,  too long.
- Aching in teeth.
- Upper teeth, pricking pains in sockets.
- Sharp aching 
twinges in upper molars.
- Upper incisors tender at sockets when biting.
- Temperature - Rise and fall of temperature, shivering, diminished perspiration.
- Spleen disorders.
- Spleen painful to pressure, pain in right side, worse in some parts than in others, 
with shiverings.
- Severe pains in the left hypochondrium with tertian f ever.
- Loud rumbling in bowels, about 
navel.
- Slight colicky pains at navel.
- Colic deep in pelvis, pains run down backs of thighs to knees.
- Breasts - Great increase of milk in breasts of nursing women.

### Urinary & Genital
- Given to pregnant women for fevers, it has caused miscarriages and premature deliveries.
- In a case 
of subacute tuberculosis, it restored the menses, which had been absent since the illness commenced.

### Extremities
- Pains run from pelvis down backs of thighs to knees.
- Marked diminution of reflex in hips and extinction 
of voluntary movements.

### Sleep
- Restless night, wakes at 3 and 4 a.m., then dozes and dreams until 7:30.
- Increased stupor, desire to 
be quiet.
