Burdick investi gated the medicinal pr operties of many plants hitherto unused by \nthe profession, including Symphoricarpus racemosa. \nUseful for persistent vomiting of pregnancy. Nausea during menstruation. Nausea, worse from any motion. \nAverse to all food, better when lying on the back. Gastric disturbances, fickle appetite, nausea, water brash, \nbitter taste. Smell and thought of food repugnant. Constipation. \nCOMMENTS - When Burdick gave some of the Sym-r. to the first prover, a woman, she felt the marked nausea, \nand exclaimed, as soon as it w as produced, \u201cDoctor, this is precisely like the morning sickness I always \nexperienced during pregnancy.\u201d \nDr. Burdick became more interested, repeated the experiment with other provers, and obtained almost uniform \nresults, viz., a feeling varying from qualmishness to intense vomiting. It was given to female provers only and \nmerely tested far enough to verify that symptom. \nUpon this clue, Dr. Burdick gave Sym -r. in the higher potencies to patients suffering from the vomiting of \npregnancy with the most satis factory results. After a trial of many years, he found it so far superior to other \nremedies that he relied on it altogether with rarely any but entirely satisfactory results.  \nBurdick mentioned the drug in his course of lectures, so Moaffat bore it in mind waiting for a test case. Soon \nthat came in the person of a young woman three months advanced in her first pregnancy.  \nShe was suffering from a deathly nausea with vomiting and retching so prolonged and violent as to produce \nhematemesis. The smell or thought of food was repugnant in the extreme. \nAn examination disclosed no malposition or apparent cause for the trouble, so he procured some Sym-r. 200c \nfrom Dr. Burdick and gave her one dose in the midst of a violent paroxysm. \nIn a few minutes she stopped vomit ing and said she felt soothed and quieted all over. In half an hour the \nnausea began again, but a few pellets checked it promptly and she fell asleep. Once during the night she \nawoke distressed and took a dose, but slept again quite soon. \nFor a month or so she felt very well until af ter over-exerting herself she became nause ated once more, but it \nwas promptly checked, nor did it return during her pregnancy. The indications have been observed in cases \nof pregnancy with a feeling of qualmishness, with indifference to food. \nIn more severe cases, there is a deathly nausea, the vomiting is continuous, violent retching. Sym-r. does not \nseem to be con fined to any particular morning aggravation, a prominent symptom is the disgust at the sight, smell or \nthought of food. \nIn one case, the patient was comparatively comfortable while lying on the back, but would be nauseated by \nthe slightest motion of the arms, particularly raising them. The case was completely relieved by a few doses \nof Sym-r.","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
