# Echinacea Purpurea

## Keynote Indications
Echi-p. treats changes in the blood, simulating typhoid, pyemia, diphtheria, scarlatina, 
septicemia, and the effects of vaccination (Thuj.). Tendency to suppuration. Offensive discharges (Arn., Bapt.). 
Biting, tingling sensations. 
Listless feeling, worse evening. High fe ver and flushed face (Bapt., Bell.). Marked chilliness. The black root 
has been taken as a “signature” of the remedy in cases of low fevers where a black tongue was observed.
COMMENTS - George Royal wrote of his experiences with Echi -p. He used it for furuncles with a dry skin. 
Small boils (“cat boils”), very sensitive and seemed to come in crops, more about the neck and shoulders. 
Carbuncles with profuse sanguino-purulent discharge, marked large sloughing, coming in crops mostly about 
the neck, sometimes on perineum. 
Royal would usually give such patients 
Echinacea purpurea five drops of the 1st every three hours and apply a hot solution of 1 part of the tincture 
to 9 of water; changing the application often. He noted that it could be used in a similar manner to treat bruised 
or lacerated wounds. 
 
 
It cured a case of a strumous, young bricklayer whose hand and fingers were to be amputated because of 
symptoms of sepsis (i. e., enlargement of the glands under the arms and temperature).  
Echinacea 1c internally and tincture locally checked the sepsis and saved the fingers. In this case the skin and 
muscles were brought as nearly as possible to normal position and the Echinacea applied and changed every 
hour for 48 hours. 
Royal used it successfully, only once, for suppurative appendicitis, i.e., after pus  had formed and evacuated 
into the intestines. Merc, and Hepar had both failed to heal but Echinacea 1c, five drops every night and 
morning for three weeks, cured. 
Used with success in recurring attacks of chronic inflammation about the cecum, and in a few cases of typhoid 
when the tired feeling was the ranking symptom.

## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations)
Better from rest in bed. Better pressure. Better bending double. Worse in the evening. Worse 
stooping.
