# Vespa Vulgaris ## Remedy Classification - **Type:** Homeopathic Remedy - **Miasm:** Psoric Miasm - **Temperament:** Chilly - **Aggravation Time:** Night ## Keynote Indications The symptoms are mostly the results of stings although Berridge proved Vesp. 30c on three persons. The symptoms included low spirits, pain in right ear, nausea Vespa crabro with faint feeling and trembling, pain in left side of the neck on waking. Stinging, burning pains, as if pierced with red hot needles. Stinging piercing deeply, as if a hook were pulled out. Sudden stinging and burning in cheek. Burning of the part, then swelling, red with burning pain. Sudden tearing. Indurated feeling. Cutting like electric shocks through all joints. Arm, head and face swollen. Eyes red and twitching. Red lines along absorbents. Itching over whole body. Insensibility. Vasomotor symptoms of skin and mucus membranes. Nerve and muscular excitement. Trem bling, quaking with ch attering of teeth. Convulsions, loss of consciousness, does not answer when spoken to, looks into space, has no recollection of the attack. Dizzy, better lying on back. Faintness, all day with trembling and nausea. Numbness and blindness. Pulse slow, heart’s action scarcely perceptible. Feeling as if dying at night. Heat especially overpowers him. Feet were cold except in summer, when they burned uncomfortably. Perspiration on parts laid on with itching. Axillary glands swollen with soreness of upper arms. Nausea and vomiting, followed by creep ing chills from feet upward. Cramping pain in bowels. Frequent urination. Weakness with bedwetting. Pain in sacrum extend ing up back. Disorders of left ovary with tenderness. ## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations) Better from cold washing of hands. Cold water first relieves then aggravates. Skin better by bathing with vinegar. Worse from hot stove, in a closed room. Worse after sleep, after eating. Worse by motion. Unconsciousness with inability to move. ### Vertigo - Fainting, loss of consciousness. - COMMENTS - W. - Rowbotham was stung on the right cheek. - The next day, about 4 a.m., he was suddenly awakened by burning, stinging pain in cheek, “as if pierced with red- hot needles” and soreness and smarting along the lymphatics. - After bath ing the face he got to sleep and was again suddenly awakened by the pain two hours later, which recurred periodically in paroxysm, throughout the day. - Burnett observed a case of a sting on the tongue in a woman. - The tongue entirely filled the buccal cavity. - The patient’s appearance was exactly like one suffering from severe synanche. - The swelling was diffuse and deep- seated. - There was not much redness. - Mr. - X. - age 66, had his right eye inflamed for six days. - When seen there was redness of right lower lid, baggy swelling of conjunc tiva partly covering the cornea whe n pressed upward, lachrymation of right eye worse in open air, right lids adhere in morning. - Vesp. - three times daily cured in a few days. - E. - T. - Blake cured with Vesp. - face swollen and puffy, skin transparent and blanched, scalding urine followed by itching, itching of right arm. - Blake also related the case of Miss C. - J., who at the age of thirty -one was stung on the left thumb, through some calico and . - was never well after, dying at the age of thirty -eight. - She was prone to constipa tion all her life and at t wenty-three had “congestion of the left lung.” Most of the abdominal, urinary, ovarian and uterine symptoms were hers. - Among the latter was an irritable ulcer. ### Head - Fainting and loss of consciousness. - A violent heat came over him, felt sick, then turned giddy and spun around and around like a top until he fell, stagge red to the house, got into a chair in a moment, fell out of it, almost fainting, dashed water into his face, at length was able to lie down on his bed. - Erysipelatous inflammation of lid, whole side of face painful and swollen. ### Ears - Sticking deep in right ear. - Purulent catarrh of middle ears. ### Face - Pain in cheek as if pierced with red - hot needles, suddenly awakening him from sleep and recurring periodically. - Painfill and swollen. - Erysipel atous inflammation of lids. - Swelling of mouth and throat with violent burning pains. - Face livid. - Face smooth, dark red, bloated. - Anxious look. ### Mouth - Tongue swollen and tense, swelling below chin, between that and hyoid bone, pain in a point in middle line of tongue, swollen, red, rounded, filled the mouth, immovable, could not speak, only mumbled, swallowing was painful and difficult. - Swelling of pala te with inflam mation. - Peculiar taste, as when a nest of wasps is disturbed, worse heat. ### Throat - Swelling of throat, soreness, heat of throat. - Hypertrophied tonsils which secreted a cheesy matter. - Pharyngeal varicosis. ### Chest - Aching in heart. - Slow beating of heart, almost imperceptible. - Pulse rapid and small, feeble, with violent beating of carotids. ### Stomach & Abdomen - Cold feeling in stomach. - Heat in stomach. - Indigestion with flushing. - Belchings. - Nausea in evening after coming indoors with weight in stomach with faint feeling and trembling. - Vomiting with swelling of head. - Uneasiness in abdomen. ### Urinary & Genital - Kidneys - Marked tenderness to deep pressure in kidney region. - Remittent dysuria with backache. - Burning pain with urination, also itching. - Burning urination in women. - Hematuria. - Incessant bedwetting. - Dyspnea. - Respiration hurried. - Hoarseness. - Voice lost. - Spasm of glottis (after application of diluted ammonia to tongue), face pale, drops of sweat on forehead, arms thrown out to gasp for air, he got out of bed, sank back on bed, face livid, breath and pulse stopped. - Swelling of scrotum and penis. - Menstruation, preceded by pain, pressure, depression and constipation. - Menses intermittent, sometimes brown, accompanied by pain and flatulence, pre ceded by mental depression, pain, pressure and constipation. - Left ovary markedly af fected with frequent burning, urination, sacral pains extending up back. - Erosion around external os. - Pain in left ovarian region. - An irritable ulcer surrounded os tincae. - Irritation, worse in groin, passing into pudenda. ### Extremities - Pain in shoulder, axillary glands swollen. - Sprained pain in left shoulder joint on moving it, worse lifting arm or twisting it. - Aching in hand and arm. ### Neck & Back - Pain in left side of neck, waking her at night, preventing her from turning it to left side, felt least when lying on back, best on right side. - Pain in scapula with soreness. ### Skin - Erythema intense itching, burning. - Boils, stinging and soreness, relieved by bathing with vinegar. - Wheals, macules and swellings with burning, stinging and soreness. - Erythema multiforme. ### Sleep - Night restless. - Sleepless all night. ### Generalities - As if a harpoon were sticking deep in and were drawn on. - As if pierced with red-hot needles. - As if a cutting instrument were piercing all joints like an e lectric shock. - Cold, chilly sensation around sting. - As if left shoulder joint were sprained. - As if about to suffocate. - As if dying.
