A\nspecial characteristic of Calcarea Sulph is the tendency to form deep\nabscesses.  In this way, it resembles Sulphur as well as Calcarea Carb,\nand to some extent Pyrogenium.  Pyrogenium is of use when the\ninfection in the abscesses has already poisoned the blood (toxaemia).\nPutrefaction is also found in the deep abscesses associated with\nSilicea, but it usually does  not affect the blood.  If  it happens at all, it\nis of very severe magnitude.  Th e widespread pyaemic abscesses in\nthe body resulting from toxaemia \/ septicaemia respond very well to\nCalcarea Sulph in addition to Pyro genium.  Similarly, it is deeply\nrelated to chronic sores that have the tendency to transform into\ncancer, and also controls sores to some extent.  It is also useful in the\ntreatment of the ulcers and fistulae developing when the cancers\nsurface on the skin.\n\nCalcarea Sulph is described as the best remedy for epilepsy.  In recent\ntimes, the incidence of epilepsy has significantly increased and there\nare many reasons for this.  One reason is injury to the head of the baby\ndue to certain instruments used at the time of delivery, affecting the\nbrain of the child.  Epileps y can also be the result  of the ill effects of\ncertain allopathic medicines.  In such children, in addition to the\nstandard prescriptions, one sh ould look for the appropriate\nconstitutional remedy in order to cu re the epilepsy.  Calcarea Sulph is\nsaid to be the one that can comple tely cure epilepsy.  Dr. Kent, who\nwas previously an eminent allopath ic physician as well as a surgeon\nand understood the physiology of the human body, is of the opinion\nthat Calcarea Sulph can totally uproot the epilepsy.  Sometimes, the\nepilepsy is due to a tumour in the brain or it can be due to the effect of\na physical injury to the brain.  Sometimes it is due to the abnormal\n\nCalcarea Sulph 188\ndevelopment of the skull, evident on observing the patient.  In such a\npatient who has a permanent developm ental defect of the skull, the\ncure for the epilepsy is apparently impossible.  The statement of Dr.\nKent does not hold well about the treat ment of this kind of epilepsy\nwith Calcarea Sulph.  However, we can definitely say that Calcarea\nSulph has significantly benefited many epileptic patients.\n\nIt is possible to treat the epilepsy which gas developed secondary to\nsome serious illnesses of infanc y, cholera and dysentery being the\nmost salient.  Whenever the diarrh oea due to gastro-enteritis or a\nsevere kind of dysentery is treated forcibly with some allopathic\nmedicine, there is always the dange r that the child may subsequently\ndevelop epilepsy.  I often treat such patients with Cuprum.  In\naddition, I have also given them Artemisia in Mother Tincture form.\nBoth of these do temporarily benefit, but I have not observed complete\ncure.  These remedies have to be administered on a permanent basis.  I\nhave tried them in very high pot ency and found that the intervals\nbetween the epileptic fits prolong ed, but complete cure was not\nobtained.  It means that we should try to find out other remedies for\nthe complete cure of epilepsy.  According to Dr. Kent, Calcarea Sulph\nhas this capability.\n\nI have observed complete cure of epilepsy only in the condition of\nrecurrence of that particular i llness, the suppression of which had\nresulted in the development of epilep sy in the first place.  When that\nparticular illness relapses, it can be treated with other kinds of\ncomplementary remedies, such as Arsenic for the treatment of fever,\nand Mag Phos for the treatment of abdominal pain and colic.\nHowever, antibiotics and strong medi cations that suppress the illness\nmust be avoided.\n\nRegarding the treatment of epilepsy, one should study the prodormal\nsigns (Aura), as already mentioned in  reference to Calcarea Ars.  In\nsome of these patients, blood is noted to rush towards the head.\nGenerally it is considered to treat  with Belladonna however, is not\nproper. Belladonna only helps partia lly, for a short time.  In some\nother homoeopathic medicines als o, there is a tendency of blood\nrushing towards the brain such as in Hydrocyanic Acid.  Hydrocyanic\nAcid causes severe spasm of the ai r passages, resulting in a profound\ncongestion of the face.  In th e presence of these symptoms,\nHydrocyanic Acid may also be one of the important remedies for\n\nCalcarea Sulph 189\nepilepsy.  Hydrophobinum is also relate d to this kind of illness.  The\npatient is scared of flashing objects.  If there is fear of developing\nepilepsy on the sight of a flashing object , Hydrophobinum would be\nfound very useful.  This may be  given in combination with\nHydrocyanic Acid.  These are compatible and in fact are supplemental\nto each other for the treatment of this kind of epilepsy.\n\nWhen an epileptic cannot be treated by homoeopathic remedies he\nshould definitely be transferred to the care of allopathic physicians.  A\nnumber of strong allopathic medi cines have been discovered to\ncontrol epileptic fits.  They keep the patient drowsy to a great extent,\nbut relieve him of the pain of the epileptic fits.  In addition to\nallopathy, the traditional Chinese sy stem of medicine may also be\ntried.\n\nCalcarea Sulph is very useful in the treatment of muscular pains and\nstrains.  Whenever someone carries a heavy load beyond his capacity\nhis back gets hurt.  Calcarea Sulph, besides other remedies, may prove\nuseful.  Its action is not limited to the muscles of the back, but extends\nto the muscles of the entire body.  It is also very beneficial in the\ntreatment of severe muscular strains of the limbs  due to excessive\nheavy lifting.\n\nIf other symptoms of Ca lcarea Sulph are present, whenever there is\nsevere flushing of the face  causing convulsion, not only on the face\nbut other parts of the body as well such as the chest, arms, legs or\nhead and there is a feeling of tight ness, Calcarea Sulph can prove very\neffective.  Calcarea Sulph is al so useful for the treatment of bone\npains, inflammation of the glands  and generalised muscle\nfasciculation (twitching), especially the muscles of the face.  Calcarea\nSulph, Agaricus and Kali Phos a re useful in the treatment of\nmuscle twitching under stress  in feeble-minded patients .  The\nailment of the patient aggravates on standing up, being more common\nin the women who stand for extended periods of time while cooking.\n\nThe Calcarea Sulph patient feels comfort on starting to walk, but after\nwalking for some distance, as the circulation of the blood improves\nand the legs feel warm, his symptoms become worse again.\n\nDue to his constant state of appr ehension, the Calcarea Sulph patient\nwakes up early in the morning.  This symptom along with other\n\nCalcarea Sulph 190\nsymptoms of Calcarea Sulph makes th e diagnosis certain.  Calcarea\nSulph may be effective in the treatment of feeling of tiredness, vertigo\nor symptoms like epilepsy, resulting from mental exertion\n\nThis is also useful in the treatment of diplopia (double vision) and\nhypersensitivity to light.  It is also useful in the elderly when they hear\nvarious kinds of noises in their ears.\n\nIn Calcarea Sulph, there is persiste nt nasal catarrh, which virtually\nsettles in permanently and then dest roys the inner lining of the nose.\nThis makes the life of these patien ts forever miserable.  Calcarea\nSulph is the ideal and sure-shot re medy for this kind of nasal catarrh\nwhen associated with the other symptoms of Calcarea Sulph.\n\nCalcarea Sulph is also useful in the treatment of paralysis of the\ntongue where the muscles of the tongue be come rigid and tense.\nSudden muscular cramps of the tongue and the associated sensation of\nsuffocation is also present.  This  symptom is also found in Hepar\nSulph.  The feeling of tightness of  the air passages (suffocation) and\nnasal catarrh is followed by constant irritation in the throat due to\nwhich even a small amount of air en tering the throat or just mere\nspeaking can precipitate a choking sensation.\n\nThe diagnosis being correct, Calcar ea Sulph is also useful in the\ntreatment of chronic inflammation of the kidneys .  In Calcarea\nSulph, the person feels warm all ov er and does not lik e to cover his\nbody.  Even the warmth of bedding may be intolerable to him.\n\nBefitting the constitution of a particular person, Calcarea Sulph would\nbenefit in treating asthma and ailments of the ear  also.  Similarly, it\nwill be beneficial in curing malaria.  In this respect, it has been\nlearned that during the onset of fever,  the chills start from the feet, but\nthis condition has also been described in reference to other\nhomoeopathic remedies.  Thus, th is particular symptom cannot be\ndiagnostic of Calcarea Sulph.\n\nAnother feature of Calcarea Sulph is the presence of thick, yellowish\nsecretions from the eyes .  The eyesight becomes foggy  and most\nthings are only partially  visible.  The discharge of the ear is blood-\nmixed and the nasal discharge is of  a yellowish colour.  The throat\nhurts.  Sputum from the throat is yellowish in colour.  Similarly, the\n\nCalcarea Sulph 191\ndiarrhoeal stools are sticky like thick pus and may often be mixed with\nblood.\n\nItching of the body  is not unusual in Calcarea Sulph.  The sores\ndischarging pus do not heal easily.  Yellow scabs form over them.\nPimples develop at the roots of th e hair, which itch and bleed easily.\nIn a Calcarea Sulph child, his dry eczema  also shows similar scabs.\nThe patients of the nature of Calcarea Sulph suffer from frequent\ndisturbance of sleep due to strange ki nds of dreams.
