Infertility, Abortion \/ Miscarriage \nHomoeopathic Remedies  \nfor Common Problems  \nassociated with Pregnancy and Childbirth \n \nSepia is considered to be a very effective treatment for infertility.  The \ndiagnosis for Sepia must not be based on the physical constitution of \nthe patient alone.  Unless the constitution of the patient exactly \nmatches that of Sepia, it will prove to be of no use.  If the constitution \nof the patient only resembles that of Sepia (rather then completely \nmatching it), then Kali Phos will be found more useful than Sepia. \n \nSexual weakness resulting from ne rvous tension as well as the \ntendency to abort repeatedly (habit ual abortion), can be effectively \ncured with Kali Phos.  If there is  a risk of miscarriage in early \npregnancy, then Viburnum Opulus Q, ten to fifteen drops dissolved in \nsmall amount of water, used regularly in the first and second month of \npregnancy is considered to be more effective.  Sabina is given in the \nthird month, while Kali Carb is given in the fourth and fifth month.  \nKali Phos can, however, be given every month.   \n \nAn abortion threatened by a fall or  an accident must be treated with \nArnica 1000 before the appearance of symptoms.  The addition of Kali \nPhos to Arnica will be much more  beneficial.  Caulophyllum 200 also \nis very effective prophylactially.   Once the bleeding starts (threatened \nabortion), then Ferrum Phos must be  added to Kali Phos.  Likewise, \nMillefolium and Phosphorus together can avert the abortion. \n \nSometimes, the baby is malpositioned in  the uterus, posing a threat to \nnormal delivery; Pulsatilla is usually very useful in the correcting the \nposition to normal.  If it fails, then Kali Sulph, which is the chronic of \nPulsatilla, should be tried.  Kali Su lph strengthens the uterus against \nthe tendency to abort.  Kali Sulph is useful in every type of \nleucorrhoeal inflammation and burni ng sensation.  Uterine prolapse, \nand pain and pressure in the womb are best treated with Kali Sulph, \nprovided other symptoms of Kali Sulph are present. \n \nIn Kreosotum, the typical sign is bleeding. The slightest pressure, like \nthe simplest touch during an eye examination, can cau se bleeding.\nLikewise, the uterus tends to bl eed easily resulting in continuous \nmenstrual bleeding. \n \nIn Ledum, the periods are frequent a nd profuse; the colour is bright \nred.  If other symptoms of Ledum ar e also present, then Ledum alone \ncan cure most of the problems related to the uterus.   \n \nLilium Tig is more useful in the treatment of women of hysterical and \nexplosive nature, who have problem s related to the uterus and the \nheart.  Their mind is occupied by all kinds of doubts, fear and anxiety.  \nThey feel as if the uterus and ot her pelvic organs are prolapsing \ndownwards, all of which they unknowingly try to support manually.  \nIn such patients, their periods begi n before their regular time and are \nscanty and offensive, containing  dark blood clots.  The bleed \nintensifies on movement and subsides on resting and lying down. \n \nThe main features of Merc Sol are sh arp stinging pain associated with \nburning sensation, excessive menstrual bleeding, pain in the abdomen, \ncorrosive vaginal discharge (leucorrhoea).  These symptoms are worse \nat night.  There is morning sickne ss, scalding urination, feeling better \nby washing with cold water. Merc So l will also be useful to avert the \ntendency to abort in early pregnancy due to the weakness of the \nuterus, by strengthening the uterus so that it may safely hold and \nnourish the foetus. \n \nAfter marriage, some women may develop irregularity of periods, \npelvic pains and nervousness, and should be treated with \nMedorrhinum.   \n \nPeriods lasting much longer, pain a nd cramps in the lower part of the \nabdomen and excessive bleeding are the main symptoms of \nMillefolium.  If all the three symptoms are found together, then \nMillefolium, by God\u2019s grace, instantly relieves the condition, with rare \nexception.  Likewise, Millefolium w ill allay the threat of abortion \nwhere bleeding starts due to slight  movement and stops on resting.  \nMillefolium is also very useful in treating varicose veins of the legs \nthat develop during pregnancy.  If M illefolium is given at this time, it \nwill stop the progression of the dise ase.  When a woman starts having \nfits of epilepsy and spasms due to  the stoppage of her period, or the \nperiod starts due to excessive phys ical exertion, in this condition \nMillefolium is also useful.\nKali Carb is very beneficial in tr eating a myriad of weaknesses that \ndevelop after childbirth.  Natrum Mu r is also very effective in the \nrestoration of  health. \n \nIf a fever develops after childbirt h, this (puerperal fever) can be \ntreated with Sulphur an d Pyrogenum combined.  Pulsatilla helps in \nexpulsion of the remaining placenta and blood clots. \n \nIrregular periods, the irritating type  of leucorrhoea, premenstrual \ntension, the bearing down type of pa in, heaviness in the morning and \nexcessive burning in urination are all indications for Natrum Mur.   \n \nNatrum Carb is ideal for the treatme nt of infertility resulting from \nchronic leucorrhoea.  A Natrum Carb patient is of a cold constitution, \nhas continuous leucorrhoea and cannot  conceive.  If these symptoms \nare found together, then through the Grace of God, Natrum Carb alone \nwould be very effective in curing the infertility.  \n \nPulsatilla, Ashoka and Gossypium Q are also excellent remedies for \ninfertility.  Other appropriate re medies should also be employed, \ndepending on the associated symptoms e.g. if the uterus feels as if out \nof place, then Natrum Phos could be useful.  The hands of the patient \nof Natrum Phos, like that of Psorin um, remain very cold.  In Natrum \nPhos, some symptoms also resemble  Pulsatilla.  During menstruation \nthe hands and the feet are especially cold in the morning. \n \n \nGeneral Instructions Concerning Pregnancy  \nAnd the Facilitation of Childbirth \n \nFerrum Phos, Calcarea Phos and Kali  Phos 6X started twice a day in \nthe third or fourth month of pregnanc y serve as a very useful tonic for \nboth the mother and the baby.  The treatment must be stopped for a \nweek or ten days after every one to  two weeks.  Continuous use of \nthese is not advisable. \n \nAt the onset of labour pains, Kali Phos and Mag Phos 6X dissolved in \nwarm water should be administered  every one to two hours for eight\nto ten times a day.  The first three doses should be given every half \nhour and then at prolonged intervals. \n \nOne dose of Arnica 1000 should be given before delivery and one \nright after the delivery.  For th e fever developing after delivery, \nSulphur and Pyrogenum 200 together must be given two to three times \na day for the first few days.  Once the fever starts subsiding, then once \na day for three days.  After that, once a day for two weeks.  In my \nexperience, there is no better treatment for puerperal fever than this. \n \nIf milk is not being produced af ter childbirth, then Bryonia and \nPhytolacca should be given together once or twice a day.  They work \nwonders.  They may be given in potency 30, three to four times a day.   \n \nDepression after childbirth (Post-pa rtum depression) can be \neffectively treated with Ignatia 200 instantly.  If however, the \ntreatment falls short, then one dose  of Natrum Mur 200 after Ignatia \nwill make up for it.   \n \nFor the phobia of going out, the treatment is Calcarea Carb 1000 once \na week for three weeks.   \n \nWeak and ineffective labour pains should be treated with Pulsatilla 30, \nthree to four times a day.  If the position of the child is breech (the \nreverse of the normal position), then give Pulsatilla 200, one or two \ndoses.  For the transverse lie (the  child lying sideways), Arnica and \nCaulophyllum 200 combined, given once a day for a few days is very \nuseful. This combination also produ ces wonderful results in a serious \nand potentially fatal condition, Placenta Praevia, in which the placenta \nis attached near the opening of the womb \n \nFurther reference concerning the pr oblems related to pregnancy and \nchildbirth are found under Kali Carb, Caulophyllum, Causticum and \nGelsemium.  The following should also be studied carefully in their \nrelative chapters: \n \nActaea Racemosa Kali Bromatum \nAgnus Castus Phosphorus \nAurum Muriaticum Secale Cor \nBorax Symphori Carpus \nIpecacuanha\n14. Diseases related to Disorders of the \nArteries and Veins \n \nTransient as well as long- lasting diseases of the arteries and the veins, \nincluding traumatic and psychological disorders have been referred to \nunder the following chapters: \n \nAconitum Cimicifuga \nAlumina Crataegus \nAmmonium Carb Cuprum \nArnica Fluoricum Acid \nArsenic Hamamelis \nAurum Metallicum Lachesis \nBelladonna Millefolium \nBellis Perennis Opium \nBenzoicum Acid Psorinum \nCarbo Animalis Pulsatilla \nCarbo Veg Strontia Carb \nChininum Ars Sulphur  \n  \nWhenever patients suffering from Ar terial or Venous disorders are \nseen, the above remedies should be  studied.  Symptoms of such \npatients would be found somewhere in these remedies. \n \nSometimes, the tendency of the arteries to rupture may be the \nconsequence of suppressed skin diseases.  For example, in Rhus Tox, \nthe affected area tends to exude a watery discharge, even though the \nskin disease had apparently healed over twenty years beforehand.  The \nrecurrence of the varicose veins will need to be treated with Rhus Tox \n1000 once or twice a week.
