Apparently it is harmless, but its seeds are\nextremely poisonous.  The medicine pr epared from this plant is called\nHyoscyamus.  It profoundly affects the mind, especially in relations to\nthe sexual functioning.\n\nIn Hyoscyamus, there is total di sarray of mental functions.  The\npatient feels as if his mind is under the control of a supernatural\npower.  The patient is delirious and acts insanely .   Sometimes, a\npatient develops the symptoms of Hyoscyamus during the typhoid\nfever.  He talks while sleeping and constantly crimps and pinches the\nbed sheet.  He talks unabashed obsceneties due to the inflammation\nof the sexual organs.  It is not unusual for a decent person to talk\nobscenely when sick, whereas he woul d never utter such foul things\nunder normal circumstances.  If a girl happens to be sick her parents\nwill not, out of embarrassment, even call the doctor to see her.\nNevertheless, the use of obscene language is no reflexion of her desire\nin sexual misadventure.  It is a typical symptom of Hyoscyamus,\nwhich causes inflammation of the sexual organs affecting the mind.\nThe patient talks in an absurd way that he would never do in the state\nof normal health.  This excitement is due to the sickness also found in\nCantharis, i.e. the inflammation of  the sexual organs.  (For further\ndifferentiation between Hyoscyamus and Cantharis, please refer to\nCantharis).\n\nA Hyoscyamus patient talks obscenely during sleep or while he is\nsemi-conscious.  This condition disappears when the patient is awake\nand conscious.\n\nIn a patient of Hyoscyamus there is a generalized twitching of the\nmuscles.  The nerves are irri table, causing severe muscular\ncontractions.  The patient feel s a piercing type of pain.  Muscles\nbecome tense and contracted with tonic convulsions .  There are\nfasciculation\u2019s over different parts of the body.  The patient becomes\nvery weak and his head slips and sags from the pillow due to the\nweakness.  This symptom is also found in a patient of Muriatic Acid.\nIn women, severe convulsions develop at the time of childbirth.\n\nAll sorts of mental diseases can be  found in Hyoscyamus, but there is\nno tendency towards committing physical violence.  Physical violence\nis very common in Belladonna.  The patient has a very suspicious\nmind.  He believes that somebody is standing next to him, and he\nstarts conversing with him.  Some times, he thinks that somebody is\nstanding behind him, thus he will often turn back to look at him.  He is\nextremely suspicious like the patient of Lachesis.  He presumes that\nhis close relative has poisoned his food.  This symptom is present both\nin Lachesis and Hyoscyamus.  If a patient is afraid of taking the\nremedy through suspicion of being poisoned, a drop or two mixed in a\nlarge amount of water may be administered.\n\nWhen semi-conscious, a patient of H yoscyamus talks to himself.  He\nthen screams and may become totally unconscious.  Quite a few\nnormal people have the habit of talk ing to themselves.  However, the\nHyoscyamus patient talks to himself only during the sickness.\n\nOne of the ideas imprinted in the mind of the patient is that he can\nnever be forgiven for his sins.  In fact, in his own thoughts, he\nbelieves himself to have committed murder or some other heinous\ncrime, though in reality, he never committed such a crime.\n\nOne symptom of Hyoscyamus, which resembles Glonoine and\nLachesis, is that the patient feels lost while on a journey .  While at\nhome he still thinks that he is not at home.  He remains similarly\ndisorientated outside the home al so.  He feels himself a stranger\neverywhere.\n\nThe Hyoscyamus patient develops fear of water (hydrophobia).  Even\nthe sound of running water bothers him.  He cannot swallow water\ndue to severe constriction of the throat.  According to Dr. Kent,\nBelladonna, Hyoscyamus, Cantha ris and Hydrophobinum are all\nexcellent medicines to treat this co ndition.  In my experience, I have\nfound Stramonium and Hydrocyanic Acid capable of totally uprooting\nthis condition.  They are ve ry effective against the constriction of the\nthroat developing on swallowing water .  Hydrophobia develops\nafter being bitten by a rabid dog.   Stramonium is the best treatment\nfor Rabies.  In the olden days, some doctors used to treat the patients\nwith Stramonium.  In homoeopat hy also, Stramonium has proven to\nbe very useful.  The patients who develop symptoms of Rabies should\nbe treated with Stramonium a nd Hydrophobinum combined.  By the\ngrace of God, they work very well.  In case the anti-rabies vaccine is\nnot available, and one is not sure  whether the biting dog is rabid or\nnot, Stramonium and Hydrophobinum combined must be administered\nimmediately.  These remedies shoul d first be given daily for a few\ndays, then twice a week for a few months and then gradually tapered\noff.  This will, by the grace of God, prevent against the onset of\nRabies and obviate any further dangers forever.\n\nIf the eyesight becomes weak due to the dysfunction of the nerves ,\nthen Hyoscyamus will be of good us e.  In case the vision becomes\nintermittently blurred   and doe s not focus properly, then also\nHyoscyamus must be used.  Sometimes, during a high fever, the\npatient goes into a severe convulsion with the locking of the jaw .\nThe mouth becomes dry and smelly, the tongue becomes red or\nbrown, dry and fissured; the movement of the tongue becomes\nsluggish or it is not under voluntar y control anymore, resulting in\nfrequent interruptions of speech. The tongue becomes insensitive and\nliable to be cut between the teet h while eating food.  If all these\nsymptoms are due to stomach upset, then Pulsatilla and Carbo Veg\ncan also be used.\n\nIn Hyoscyamus, the stomach becomes flaccid and dilated.  The stools\n(as in typhoid) are granular in appearance or may be watery and mixed\nwith blood.  Another troubling probl em is that the patient has no\ncontrol over passing urine or opening the bowels (urinary and faecal\nincontinence).\n\nIf women are unable to pass urine after  childbirth, then Causticum is\nthe best remedy.  Causticum will be much more effective when given\nalong with Arnica.  If this treatment  is ineffective, then Hyoscyamus\nmust be used.  Hyoscyamus is very useful in the treatment of\nurinary tract infections and inflammations.\n\nIn Hyoscyamus, there is severe griping pain in the abdomen and the\npatient feels as if his abdomen is  going to burst open.  The patient\nvomits frequently, has hiccups and screams due to pain.  He feels\ndizzy and also has a burning sensation in the stomach.\n\nBefore their periods, women become hysterical and develop cramps.\nEven during their periods they experience stiffness in the muscles and\nsweat profusely.\n\nThere is a feeling of tightness over the chest as well as suffocation.\nThe patient bends over due to the severity of the pain.  At night, the\npatient develops a dry cough , which worsens on lying down and is\nrelieved on sitting up.\n\nAt night, a Hyoscyamus patient may develop epileptic convulsions in\nwhich the toes become very stiff.  The child cries and graons, while\nasleep.  The patient feels very uncomfortable at night and cannot\nsleep.  There is widespread twitching of the muscles.  The patient does\nnot like to cover himself.\n\nThe suffering of a Hyoscyamus patie nt aggravates at night, after\ntaking food and on lying down.  The pati ent is afraid of being alone.\nThe symptoms improve on bending over.\n\nAntidotes:           Camphor, Belladonna\nPotency:              30 to 1000","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
