## Keynote Indications
Leptandra, in the form of the resinoid Leptandrin, was proved by Burt. As one of the grand 
characteristics of it relative Digitalis is white stools, so the grand characteristic of Leptandra is black stools. 
Great varieties of stool, in the later stages of the proving it became dysenteric and mixed with shreds. 
Constipation with hard black stool, followed by softer stools. 
Liver symptoms, with adull, heavy, frontal headache. These symptoms confirm the use of the drug by eclectics 
as a kind of “vegetable calomel.” Sensation as if something was passing out of rectum.  
Farrington noted the dull aching in the right hypochondrium, gallbladder and back of liver, accompanied by 
soreness. Burning distress in and about liver after spreading to stomach and bowels, with drowsiness and 
despondency. Bilious and typhoid fevers with black, tarry stools. 
Eye symptoms (Euphr.). Generally right side. Chilly sensation along the spine and down r ight arm. Pains in 
right shoulder and arm. Symptoms are worse by motion, rising causes nausea and faintness. Weakness, so 
great he is hardly able to stand.
Temperature - Chilly along the spine and down the arm. Shivering or dry, hot skin, 
limbs cold and numb tongue black down center. Bilious typhoid fever. 
COMMENTS - Affects the right side and liver. Bilious states. Enfeebled portal circulation. Hemorrhages due to 
liver disorders. Jaundice and black, tarry stools. Conditions with black, tarry stools. Melanotic stools. Hepatitis. 
History of cirrhosis, hepatitisjaundice or colon cancer with dried blood in the stools. Colon cancer. Weakness, 
hardly able to stand or walk. Typhoid. Malarial conditions. Useful as an herbal tonic for the liver. 
Hale noted the order of the different kinds of stools in the proving. First there are black, thick, tar -like, fetid 
stools. This is followed by thinner, brownish, often fetid stools. Then stool s of mixed mucus, flocculent and 
watery matter with yellow bile or blood. Finally, there is mucous, bloody stool mixed with shred-like substances, 
often pure blood. 
Hale said it is only in cases of dysentery that have developed in this way that Lept. is curative, not in cases 
primarily dysenteric. Cases due to sudden climatic changes have been cured by it.  
Neidhard observed a periodicity in cases cured by him. Periodical, occurring every two or three months, yellow-
coated tongue, constant nausea with vomi ting of bile. Shooting or aching pains in region of liver, loss of 
appetite, urine brownish or very dark, often pain in transverse colon, giddiness. Characteristic very dark, almost 
black stools. Sore or dull, burning ache over liver or near gall bladder, extending down over bowels to navel or 
towards left scapula or along spine, which feels chilly. Constant dull achin g in umbilical region. Great distress 
in stomach and intestines with desire for stool. Canine hunger. Craving for cold food and drinks, raw food, salads. Worse fats, rich foods, meat and 
vegetables.

Better from lying on abdomen, on side. Worse fromcolddrinks, exposure to wet weather, motion, 
periodically.
