Most homoeopathic doctors draw a very\nscary picture of Muriatic Acid, i. e. a patient whose muscles have\nbecome completely useless and his h ead constantly rolls off the side\nof the bed, with death only moments away.  Such a patient is typical\nof Muriatic Acid.  In fact, Hydrochl oric Acid is routinely secreted in\nour stomach on a daily basis.  The amount secreted varies.  When the\nacidity increases in the stomach, it is possible that the quantity of\nMuriatic Acid has increased.  However, the situation may be exactly\nthe opposite in the sense that the le vel of Hydrochloric Acid in the\nstomach has decreased (hypochlorhydr ia).  This als o, can produce the\nsymptoms of hyperacidity, because when the gastric lining make less\nhydrochloric acid, then due  to a lack of the antiseptic effect of\nHydrochloric Acid, the food inside the stomach starts to decompose,\nleading to the formation of othe r acids and producing gases in the\nstomach.  The normal acidity of the stomach does not weaken a\nperson.  However, when the acidity increases above or decreases\nbelow the normal level, it produces  the ailments that we commonly\ncall \u201cacidity\u201d.  Anyhow, one has to decide after carefully observing\nthe symptoms.  As soon as the digestive system is noted to be upset,\nthe patient should be given Muriatic Acid in homoeopathic potency so\nas to normalize the acidity in the stomach.\n\nIn Muriatic Acid patients, the mind remains absolutely clear and alert,\neven if the nerves and muscles have been afflicted.  However, the\nsymptoms of a patient ameanable to Acid Phos treatment are exactly\nopposite to those of Muriatic Acid patients. In Muriatic Acid, the body\nis affected first and the mind last, whereas in Acid Phos patients, the\nstate of mind deteriorates first and physical ailments appear later on.\nThe patient\u2019s ability to think and u nderstand is badly affected.  The\nintellectual capacity slowly decreases and memory deteriorates.  After\nsome time, these symptoms graduall y lead to the weakening of the\nmuscles.  The Acid Phos patient takes a while to develop the\nsymptoms of the muscular weakness.  If the mental symptoms are\ntreated with this remedy, then the muscles may not be affected at all.\n\nIt is relatively easy to take care of the Muriatic Acid patient.  As long\nas the mind remains alert and the mental faculties have not been\naffected, the patient will be cured by  just one or two doses even if he\nis at the point of death.   The profound weakness due to the \u201cacidity\u201d\nis very dangerous but at the same  time can be very easily reversed,\nwithout leaving any long-lasting bad effects.  The same is the situation\nwith Sulphuric Acid.  So, it is most essential to understand and\ncompare the nature of the various acids.\n\nIn Muriatic Acid, there is severe headache  that may also blur the\nvision.  On straining the eyes, the headache becomes worse.\nFurthermore, pimples appear on the face.  The lips become dry and\ncrack.  The tongue becomes pale, dry and swollen.  Quite often, ulcers\ndevelop in the mouth and over the tongue .  Gums become swollen\nand may also bleed while teeth become loose.\n\nSome Muriatic Acid patients do not  even like the sight of meat,\nhowever, most of them enjoy eating it.  Sometimes, the patients feel\nsevere hunger and thirst.  Some patie nts are so sensitive to touch that\nthey do not even like to cover themselves with a sheet.  The ailments\nof Muriatic Acid get worse durin g humid weather.  The disease\naggravates shortly before midnight .  The patient finds comfort on\nlying on the left side.\n\nThe headache starts from the nape of the neck and vision becomes\nblurred.  Sometimes, the field of vision becomes half  (hemianopia).\nEither the upper half or the lower ha lf of a thing becomes invisible.\nSimilarly, either half of the left side  or half of the right side becomes\nobscure.  In the latter condition, Muriatic Acid is very effective.  For\nquivering vision in one eye , Rhus Tox is very useful as it also\nprotects against many dangerous conditions.\n\nOne symptom of Muriatic Acid is th at when the child passes stools, a\nportion of the intestine prolapses out (rectal prolapse).\n\nIn the conditions associated with formation of blisters and sores in\nthe mouth,  and cuts developing on the tongue, there is a need for\nvigorous treatment not only to cure  the mouth problems but also to\ncure the fever and its bad effects.  Sometimes, in Muriatic Acid, the\ntongue becomes paralyzed .  There is no problem of the voice\nmechanism, but only the tongue is non- functional.  For such paralysis,\nMuriatic Acid is very valuable.  The tongue is usually dry.\n\nIn Muriatic Acid, despite the skin being sensitive, the paralytic effects\nare more manifest internally. All thes e kinds of contradi ctions help in\nidentifying the remedy.  Though, the body appears lifeless, yet the\nslightest touch on the skin produces shudders .  Such\nhypersensitivity is also found in Ag aricus, Staphysagria and Oxalic\nAcid.  Similarly, Picric Acid is also a very sensitive remedy.  In all\nthese remedies, strong pressure is  bearable, although a light touch is\nunbearable and the patient pushes the hand away with a jerk.\n\nIn Muriatic Acid, the legs and ar ms become cold and feel heavy.\nMost of the excretions (i.e. ur ine, stools) are no longer under\nvoluntary control.
