## Keynote Indications
Paraffin as a generic term includes all those substances which have no affinity for sulphuric 
acid and cannot be destroyed by it, including petroleum. 
Specifically, Paraffin is a tasteless, inodorous, fatty matter, which resists the action of acids and alkalis, 
obtained by the dry distillation of wood, peat, bituminous coal, petroleum, etc. In the distillation of pet roleum, 
naphthalin is the first substance that comes off, paraffin the next. 
The homeopaths of Rome found it serviceable in uterine and other troubles, particularly constipation.  
Pains in the groins, stabbing in mons veneries, cutting pain from one iliac c rest to the other. Leucorrhea, 
pruritus vulvae and other disturbances of the female generative system with pains. Uterine disorders.  
Knife-like pains. Pains extend from one part to another and alternate. Pain in stom ach alternates with pain in 
throat and spine. Aversion to tobacco, smoking causes pain in stomach. Stomach pain with palpitations. 
Constipation.
COMMENTS - Knife-like stabs, twisting, wrenching pains, stinging and twisting, electric pains. Pains extend 
from one part to another and alternate. Pain in the stomach alternates with pains in throat and spine.  
Clarke recorded the case of Mrs. W., 37, mother of three children, who suffered since her last confinement, 
five years before, with bearing -down pains, excessive menses, and leucorrhea. Constant and violent 
indigestion with morning retching or vomiting. 
Pain in back, shoulders and abdomen after, any food, however light. The pains, which  “double her up” were 
worse on standing. Much thirst. Constipation with hemorrhoids. Constant desire to pass water.  
After Murx., and Alstonia constricta had given some relief, the indigestion returned in full force. A few globules 
of Paraf. 30c were dissolved in water and a teaspoonful taken every two or three hours.  
In a few days, all symptoms of indiges tion were gone and did not return. Other symptoms were ameliorated. 
The menses, instead of recurring too soon, were delayed much beyond the normal time. 
Paraf. also has a remarkable action in joints with nodules. Cooper saw swollen joints lessen considerably from 
its use as a liniment.
Temperature - Chill, heat, and sweat, frequently alternati ng. Chill, followed by dry heat with thirst, which is 
soon followed by sweat. Face and hands hot and red, hot sweat on upper part of body, especially forehead. Pain in lower abdomen, extending to genitals, rectum and coccyx, better sitting.

## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations)
Better after sleep, rest. Better by supporting the part. The pains are worse bending over. Worse 
standing or walking (soon bring back the symptoms).

### Head
- Left side of head and face suffer most, pains stinging and twisting.
- Pain as if a nail were driven in left 
side of vertex.

### Eyes
- Vision dim, with black specks.
- Sensation as if there were fat on the eyes.

### Ears
- Roaring in right ear like rumbling of a mill wheel, afternoon.
- Gurgling in left ear like beating of pulse.
- Ringing in both ear, morning.
- Stinging and twisting in left ear.

### Face
- Itching in face as from urticaria, smooth red spots appear.

### Mouth
- Tearing, twisting pain in teeth down to lower jaw.
- Full of saliva, feels sticky, bitter taste.
- Nose - Odor of cordials in nose.
- Nose moist, frequent desire to blow it, but without sneezing.
- Nosebleed, dark 
red.

### Throat
- Dryness of throat, fauces as if dried up, but without thirst.
- Sense of suffocation in p harynx.

### Chest
- Chest pains as if compressed.
- Stinging in chest.
- Diaphragm, as if it was inflamed.
- Pulse weak, thready, increased in frequency.
- Breasts - The nipple is painful on touching them, as if sore inside.

### Stomach & Abdomen
- Hungry all the time.
- Pain across stomach.
- Pain in stomach alternates with pain in throat and spine, 
extends to chest with belching.
- Fixed pain in left hypochondrium, as if parts were being twisted.
- Stomach pains 
with palpitations.
- Teeth - Tearing in teeth.
- Stabbing pain in .
- one of the left lower molars.
- Twisting in teeth with stinging in ear.
- Twisting pain in left lower teeth and left temple, sleep impossible.

### Urinary & Genital
- Menses too late, black, abundant.
- Milky leucorrhea.
- Nipples pain wh en touched, as if sore inside.
- Stabbing pain in mons veneris.
- Very hot urine with burning pains in vulva.

### Extremities
- Pain in spine extending to inguinal region and in both loins, when ascending the stairs.
- Feeling of 
electric shocks in all joints.
- Wrenching pain in calves, extending into toes in joints.
- Feet swollen with tearing in 
ankles and soles.

### Neck & Back
- Pains in spine, extending into lumbar vertebra.
- Pai ns in spine as if it had been injured, as bad during 
rest as when in motion.
- Back pains are worse by bending.
- Drawing and stinging between the shoulders.
- Pains 
as if from fatigue in both loins.

### Skin
- Frost bite.
- Burns, even of third degree with sloughing and sepsis; wash with ster ile water and dry and 
spray with paraffin and cover with thin layer of cotton.

### Sleep
- Continued yawning, although the joints of the jaw are painful.
- Frequent gaping with great somnolence.
- Cannot keep awake and goes to sleep in her chair, her feet go to sleep.
- Sensual, lascivious dreams.
