# Paris Quadrifolia ## Remedy Classification - **Type:** Herbal Remedy - **Miasm:** Emotional Miasm - **Temperament:** Neutral - **Aggravation Time:** Neutral/Anytime ## Keynote Indications The provings made by Hahnemann, Stapf and others, brought out a very marked and characteristic action on the eyes and developed some of the keynote symptoms of the drug. Affects the head, spine, eyes an d one side. Sensation of expansion and consequent tension. Sensation of heaviness, numbness, parts feel too big or drawn together. Whole body painful especially when touched. Broken feeling of joints. Generally a left side remedy, but it has coldness of the right side, while the left side is namral or hot. Catarrhal complaints, stuffed feeling at root of nose. Disorder of sense of touch, objects feel rough. The scalp is very sensitive to touch. Pressure on a sore spot on head causes cries. Mucus secretions are green and tenacious. The eyes give out of fetid, ulcer-like smell. Great sensitiveness to offensive odors, also imaginary bad smells, milk and bread smell like putrid meat. Diarrhea stool smells like putrid meat.“Hunger soon after a meal,” the “sinking” of the anti-psorics, hellebores, and veratrums. ## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations) Better from rest, pressure, belching. Worse touch, hiccough, eating. Worse from thinking of problems, mental exertion, thinking, eyestrain. Smoking tobacco causes headache. ## Symptoms by System ### Mind - Loquacious mania. - Garrulous, prattling, vivacious. - Inclination to treat others with rudeness and contempt. - Silly conduct. - Feels too large. - Vertigo on reading aloud. - COMMENTS - Par. - is one of the drugs which are credited with producing garrulity, vi vacity, with love of prattling, like tea. - B. - Nath Banerjee recorded a case of lo quacious insanity cured with Par. - 3c. - Mrs. - B., 45, suddenly become loquacious and insane. - After a mouth of Kavirajee treatment without benefit she came under his care, October3, 1893. - A year before, the last of her five children, a grown-up son, died and she could not be consoled and gradually became morose and dull. - She ceased to menstruate in Febru ary, 1893, but had no uterine troubles or any other illness previous to the present. - Loquacity, but not continuous. - Every three or four days, if interfered with, maniacal attacks lasting about half an hour. - At times foolish behavior. - With difficulty Banerjee obtained the following symptoms from the patient: vertigo and whenever she thinks of her lost son, severe headache, the vertex being sensitive to touch. - When telling these symptoms, suddenly her looks became wandering and her eyes appeared as if protruding from their sockets. - She could not relish her food because everything, especially fish, smelt putrid. - Whole body painful, especially when touched. - She complained of a ball lodging in the throat and giving her trouble with burning. - Acid ity and badly smelling diarrhea. - A peculiar feeling of coldness of right side of the body wh ile the left side was hot. - All symptoms worse in evening and on motion. - Ign. - 30c and later 200c, was given without any effect. - Par. - acted promptly, and on the third day the patient assured the doctor that she was quite well. - The remedy was not repeated and the cure held. - Clarke cured with Par. - a “numb feeling of left side of head.” Numbness affects the upper limbs. - The left arm is paralyzed, and it feels stiff with fingers contracted. - “Numbness and prickling in lefthand” was removed in a case of spinal affe ction. - “Fingers often feel as if asleep, objects seem rough to touch.” Disorder of the sense of touch, with great sensitiveness of the surface. - Hot stitches in left malar bones. - Acidity, sour saliva. ### Head - Chronic headaches. - Headache worse by thinking. - Headaches as from pulling a string from eyes to occiput. - Occipital headache with a feeling of wei ght. - Head feels very large, expanded. - Numb feel ing on left side of head. - Head feels as if distended and the scalp too tight. - Sensation as if scalp were contracted and bones scraped. - Soreness of top of head, scalp sensitive, cannot brush hair. - Chronic headaches. - Headache worse by thinking. - Headaches as from pulling a string from eyes to occiput. - Occipital headache with a feeling of wei ght. - Head feels very large, expanded. - Numb feel ing on left side of head. - Head feels as if distended and the scalp too tight. - Sensation as if scalp were contracted and bones scraped. - Soreness of top of head, scalp sensitive, cannot brush hair. ### Eyes - Eyes feel too large and heavy for their sockets. - Sensation of a string through eyeballs, drawing them tightly backward to the middle of the brain. - Eyes as if they were projected. - Expanded, as though eyelids did not cover. - Affections of the eyebrows. ### Ears - Pain as if the ears were pressed out or forced apart by a wedge, worse swallowing. ### Face - Neuralgia, hot stitches in left malar bone, which is very sore. - Seems drawn into root of nose. - Inflammation of the antrum, where eye symptoms coexist. ### Mouth - Tongue feels too large. - Tongue dry when awaking. - Coated white without thirst with bitter or diminished taste. - Nose - Imaginary foul smells. - Bread, fish, and milk smell putrid. ### Throat - Burning, when eating and drinking. - As of a ball in the throat. - Hawks up tough, green mucus. - Periodical painless hoarseness. ### Chest - Shootings in chest and sides of chest. - Aching in the right side of chest. - Stuffed condition and fullness at root of nose. - Periodical,painless hoarseness. - Cough as from vapor of sulphur in trachea. - Constant hawking, on account of viscid, green mucus in larynx and trachea. ### Stomach & Abdomen - Heavy as from a stone, better by eructation. - Weak digestion. - Red curved streak above navel. - Temperature - Unilateral coldness or heat. - Heat descending the back from the nec k. - Tensive pain throughout abdomen. - Hard pressure in abdomen. - Rumbling and rolling in abdomen, cutting, griping pains. - Incisive drawing and boring in one side of abdomen. - Voracious appetite. - Hunger very soon after a meal. ### Urinary & Genital - Premature menses. - Increased sexual desire. - Intense after-pains. - Suppressed lochia with ineffectual urging to stool. ### Extremities - Numbness of upper limbs. - Sense of weight and weariness in nape of neck and across shoulders. - Neuralgia, beginning in left intercostal region and extending into left arm. - Neuralgia of coccyx, pulsating, sticking, when sitting. - Joints feel broken, swollen or dislocated at every motion. - Arm becomes stiff, fingers clenched. - Fingers feel numb. - Everything feels rough. ### Neck & Back - Weight and weariness in nape of neck. - Violent pain on both sides of neck extending down to fingers worse mental exertion. - Stitches in coccyx on sitting. - Causations - Ill effects of injury, suppressions. ### Skin - Painfully sensitive. ### Generalities - Sensation of expansion and consequent tension. - As if scalp were contracted and bones scraped sores. - Heavy load on nape. - As if a thread were drawn tightly through eye to middle of head. - Ear as if for ced apart by a wedge, as if pressed out or torn out, as if a burning heat was rushing out of ears. - Tongue feels too large. - Ball in throat. - Throat constricted. - Stone in stomach. - As if internal parts contracted. - Fingers as if asleep, dead. - All joints as if broken, swollen or dislocated at every motion.
