There is one continuous\nstream of phlegm from the nose and throat down to the larynx, trachea\nand chest.  The phlegm may either  be thin, or very thick and\ntenacious.  Rumex is commonly stated  to be associated with a cough\nproducing a lot of phlegm, although, sometimes, it may be associated\nwith a dry cough.  It is not right to only consider  phlegm to reach the\ndiagnosis of Rumex.  In fact, Rume x can work very well in a dry\ncough that becomes persistent.  A ccording to Dr. Kent, Rumex is\nassociated with a severe, dry co ugh.  The cough is of a spasmodic\ntype.  There is a feeling of rawness inside the throat and trachea\n(windpipe) provoking cough. The cough is associated with pain at the\nbreast bone (sternum).  The patien t gets severe spasmodic coughing\nshortly after going to sleep.  He may sometimes not be able to sleep.\nThe patient may unknowingly wet hi mself during a severe bout of\ncoughing.\n\nSometimes, inflammation or infecti on results in the production of a\ncopious amount of phlegm.  Such a patient is described of phlegmatic\nnature.  In Greek medicine, patients  are ascribed to be of various\nnatures, including bilious, phlegma tic, asthmatic and melancholic.\nThe Rumex patient will produce a lot of phlegm, if he is of phlegmatic\nnature.  But another patient showin g symptoms of Ru mex who is not\nof phlegmatic nature may not produce any phlegm at al l.  The nature\nof the patient works as a guideline for arriving at the correct diagnosis.\nThis should be understood with refe rence to the classical medical\ndefinition, otherwise one may be confused.\n\nRumex is also useful in the treatment of many abdominal\nproblems, such as excessive gas and rumbling in the abdomen.\nUsually severe diarrhoea follows nasal catarrh . The patient\ncontracts sudden, severe and painle ss morning diarrhoea, making him\nleave the bed abruptly.  The stools are copious, watery and of dark\ncolour.  The stomach feels heavy up to the throat af ter taking food.\nThere is pain in the left side of th e chest.  The patient cannot eat meat.\nThe belly aches more on movement and on talking.\n\nIn Rumex, the tongue becomes excoriated at its margin and is coated\nwith a thick, yellowish crust. There is itching over various parts of the\nbody, especially the legs.  Small pimples form over the legs.  On\nexposure to the cold air and while changing one\u2019s clothes, the itching\nbecomes more severe.\n\nA Rumex patient is very weak.  He is extremely irritable and not able\nto comprehend very much.  He suffers  from a light continuous type of\nheadache, affecting the forehead an d the right side of the head. The\nheadache becomes worse on sneezing.  The patient is extremely\nsensitive to the cold air.  He sneezes  a lot.  The nose runs profusely.\nSymptoms become worse in the ev ening and at night.  The cough\nbegins usually at 11p.m. whether th e patient is awake or asleep.\nAnother symptom of Rumex is the hoarseness of voice .  Excessive\namounts of thick phlegm make speaki ng difficult.  There is a feeling\nof a lump sticking in the throat, which does not get better even on\nswallowing and hawking.\n\nJoint pains  are also not uncommon in Rumex.  The joint pains of\nRumex get worse from the cold.  In Calcarea Phos also, the cold\naggravates the joint symptoms.\n\nRumex symptoms aggravate on moveme nt, as in Bryonia.  However,\nin Bryonia (unlike Rumex), the patient is not very sensitive to the cold\nair.\n\nPotency: 30","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
