## Keynote Indications
Source: Derived from the whole fresh plant of Ruta graveolens, commonly known as rue or garden. rue, a perennial herb in the Rutaceae family, prepared for homeopathic use through trituration and. serial dilution to enhance therapeutic action while eliminating material toxicity, in accordance with. homeopathic pharmacopeia standards. Traditional  Context:  Historically  employed  in  homeopathy  for  musculoskeletal,  ocular,. neurological, and psychological disorders , particularly those involving sprains, eye strain, and. restlessness. It is noted for symptoms such as bruised pains, visual fatigue, and aggravation from. overexertion, often worsened by cold, damp weather, rest, or lying down, and ameliorated by. warmth, motion, or rubbing. Modern  Context:  Indicated  for  musculoskeletal  conditions (e.g.,  tendonitis,  sprains),  ocular. conditions (e.g., eye strain, asthenopia),  neurological conditions  (e.g., sciatica, neuralgia), and. psychological conditions (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, adjustment disorder). It suits patients. with acute or chronic symptoms characterized by bruised pains, eye strain, restlessness, stiffness,. or  overexertion sensitivity , typically exacerbated by cold, damp weather, rest, overexertion, or. stress, and often seen in individuals with sensitive, restless constitutions. The remedy is particularly. relevant for those with musculoskeletal or ocular conditions, often presenting with symptoms like. tendon soreness or visual fatigue, commonly observed in patients with tendonitis, eye strain, or. sciatica triggered by overexertion, cold, or prolonged rest.
COMMENTS - The vulnerary power of Ru ta does not appear to have been known before the provings were 
made, but an old use of the remedy for impaired sight due to eyestrain, cor responded to symptoms from the 
provings. 
“His eyes feel as if he had strained the sight too much by reading,” “weak, pressive-like pain in right eye with 
dimness of surrounding 
objects, as if from having looked too long at an objects that was fatiguing to the eyes,” “a feeling of heat and 
burning in the eyes and pain in them when he reads (in the evening and by candle -light).” 
Eyestrain, with burning and itching in the eyes. Eyestrain headaches (Onos.). Blurry vision. Contracted pupil. 
Eyeballs ache. Paralysis of the eye muscles and neuralgias. Facial paralysis from catching cold in robust, 
sanguine persons. 
 
 
Rheumatic paralysis of wrists and ankles. Affinity forthe joints, especially the tendons and ligaments. Joints 
feel weak and bruised. Chronic weakness and inflammation. Struc tural abnormalities. Torn or overstretched 
ligaments. Often ahistory of injury, remain ing weakness in injured spot. Often follows or is complementary to 
Rhus-t. 
Twisting injuries to the spine (Arn., Hy per., Rhus-t.). Wrenching injuries. Injuries to the shin and face. Injuries 
that are close to the bone. Bone injuries with tom ligaments, muscles o r nerves (Am., Calc-p., Symph.). Hard 
lump after injury (Am.). 
Ovemse of joints, particularly the wrists. Dislocated joints, or the tendency to dislo cate. Weak ligaments or 
joints. Carpal tunnel syndrome (Caust.). Shooting pain in wrist (Rhus-t., Hyper.). Chronic shortening of tendon 
due to ovemse. Fibrositis. Bursitis, tendonitis, from overuse. Chronic knee complaints. Frozen shoulder. 
Thickening of the periosteum or nodules after injury (Bellis). 
Stiff and aching (Am., Rhus-t.). Sharp pains (Hyper.). Deep, grinding pain. Sharp, tearing nerve pain. Drawing 
pain, as if area is being pulled shorter. Feeling of lameness ever since injury. Worse sitting or lying down. 
Chronic weakness after an injury. 
Gnawing, grinding pains, especially in the shoulder. Pain worse in cold, damp weather. Stiffness, worse in the 
morning, better from motion and heat (Rhus -t.). Coldness down the spine, leg or sciatic nerve. Tearing pain 
down the sciatic nerve. 
Great weakness, pain in limbs after a short walk. Limbs feel bmised, pain in small of back and loins. Tottering 
as if thighs were weak. Uneasiness and heaviness in legs, difficultly finding a comfortable position. All parts of 
the body on which he lies, even in bed, are painful as if bruised. Restlessness.  
Sore spot on sternu m. Pain below right scapula and stitches in small of back. Back ache. Lying on back 
ameliorates many conditions, has led to relief in cases of malignant disease of kidneys and bladder.  
Cramp in the tongue with embarrassed speech. Swollen tongue. Toothache  with digging pain. Dry sockets, 
with achy pain. Slow pulse. Hangovers. Rhus poisoning, itching, inflammation, and rashes. Skin is red, swollen 
with watery vesicles. 
Rectal polyps. Constipation, since trauma to the area (Bell -p.), since childbirth (Sep.). Constipation from 
inactivity of rectum or impaction of feces following mechanical injuries. Hemorrhoids and impacted feces after 
an injury. 
Prolapse of the rectum after confinement. 
Prolapse is worse by stooping and crouching, comes on immediately on attempting a passage. Tearing stitches 
in rectum when sitting. Tearing in rectum and urethra while urinating. Sensation of nausea located in the 
rectum. 
Rushmore cured with one dose of Ruta 900c (Fincke) a case of prolapse preceding a very difficult stool.  
A prolonged use of Ruta 3x has cured ganglion in front of left wrist. 
Cooper said, “It certainly acts strongly on deposits of scirrhus material in both the breasts and in the vagina 
and sometimes lessens the size of these.” He used Ruta ointment, prepared by  extracting the plant in warm 
Vaseline, as an application in broken cancer of the breast.
Temperature - Coldness and shivering, with great thi rst. Cold shivers run over back. Coldness running over 
one side of head. Chills mostly left-sided, worse up and down back, shakes even near a warm stove. Heat of 
face and dull head. Frequent attacks of quick flushes of heat. Glowing heat on face, skin etc. Painful swelling of the spleen. Gnawing ache in region of liver. Gnawing and eating pain about 
navel. Sick feeling in abdomen followed by soft stools. Pinching pain in abdomen after bread and butter. Cancer 
of lower bowel. Colic in children, from worms. Appetite normal, but aversion to everything as soon as he begins to eat. Disgust at first mouthful  with 
a sensa tion of fullness and satiety in abdomen. Great thirst during chill. Violent thirst for ice cold water. 
Headache from abuse of alcohol. Worse after eating bread, butter, eating meat, grapes, raw or indigestible 
food.
