The body may be rather toughly built. This\nhowever is not the on ly essential feature of a Sepia patient. It is also\nrelated to the diseases of the liver and the uterus . Once the\nsymptoms of the disease have beco me manifest, Sepia may be used\neven in the absence of the const itution described above. It is\nimportant to keep the important symptoms in view, rather than the\nexternal appearance of the patient. The specific symptom of Sepia is\nthe absence of sexual desire and lack of the em otions of love and\naffection, so much so, that an a ffectionate mother suddenly becomes\nindifferent to her child as well as her husband. Her social circle\nbegins to shrink. She may even have the tendency to commit suicide,\nor she may become partially insane . In fact, these conditions develop\nas a result of having silently suffered over a long period. People\naround her do not notice it. To them she looks normal. The pressure\nkeeps on building up, only to finall y gush out like lava. Now, the\npatient has a full-fledge d Sepia picture. She does not pay attention\ntowards her husband and children, wh ich is the natural result of\npressure building up. In fact, she has completely broken down inside\nand is sick of everything.\n\nIn Sepia, the liver is the most affected. Any kind of uterine\ndysfunction will result in a variety of complications, both during\npregnancy and after childbirth, which are accompanied by liver\ndysfunction. She hates everything that in fact she should have\nliked. The hate and indifference make her feel frightened and this\nfurther aggravates her sickness.\n\nAnother salient feature of Sepia is the formation of a dark, saddle-\nshaped mark over the bridge of the nose like two wings of a bird. In\nview of this sign alon e, like so many other homoeopaths, I have also\ntreated many patients with Sepia, to no avail. This particular sign is\noften indicative of liver dysfunctio n. But Sepia becomes effective\nonly in the presence of liver derang ement in a person of Sepia nature.\nOtherwise, some other remedy will be required. Sepia proves to be\nvery effective in the treatment of the afore-mentioned sensitive type of\nwoman, lacking emotions and showing the typical pigmented mark on\nthe nose and the face.\n\nLiver dysfunction ultimately leads to jaundice. Some women, during\npregnancy, may develop dark marks on their face . The face loses\nits healthy glow . In Sepia, this sign may become apparent even\nwithout pregnancy. Light Brown specks form with black dots in the\ncentre. This is typical of Sepia. Whitish or light brown spots can also\nform over the body, indicative of a li ver problem. In homoeopathy,\nthese are called liver spots. Brownish yellow spots are indicative of\nand responsive to Phosphorus and Sepia. White spots can be treated\nbetter with Merc Sol or Calcarea Carb, etc.\n\nIn Sepia, the patient tends to be constipated, more so during\npregnancy. She canno t effectively pass stools, due to the weak\npropulsive power of the intestin es. Such a woman also faces\ndifficulty during childbirth due to the weakness of pelvic and\nabdominal muscles i.e. she cannot push the ch ild with full force. In\nthe presence of its other symptoms, Sepia will facilitate the birth of\nthe child. If it fails, then Ca ulophylum and Gelsemium may be\nhelpful.\n\nIn Sepia, the stomach feels empt y and the patient feels extremely\nhungry. However, the appetite and weakness do not get better after\neating food. If this type of woman also tends to have prolapse of the\nuterus or weakness of the muscles of the back, then Sepia will offer\nimmediate relief. Sepia has been found very effective in the\ntreatment of vomiting of pregnancy , as long as the patient is that of\nSepia. Other characteristic features of Sepia are the vomiting of milky\nwhite material and whitish leucorrhoeal discharge. The taste of the\nmouth and smell are also affected.\n\nSepia also can be useful in the treatment of herpes if other symptoms\nof Sepia are also present. Sepia o ffers immediate relief of headache\nassociated with vomiting of bitter contents. Provided that the patient is\nof sepia constitution; Sepia can cure every eye condition and most of\nskin conditions of the patient. Skin dis eases, in general are common\nin many remedies, however if the over all picture is of sepia type then\nsepia would be useful.\n\nIn Sepia like Sulphur, the discharg e is purulent and stinky. Nasal\nsecretion is of green co lour. Associated degradation of the skin and\nmucous membranes can also get better with Sepia.\n\nA Sepia patient is mostly constipated. Sometimes, the patient gets\ndiarrhoea, passing lot of whitish sticky mucus. Mucus may also be\npassed along with hard stools as well as dysentery. The stools smell\nfoul. The associated piles also are very painful. The patient passes\nblood in the urine. Retention of placenta (after childbirth) can be a\nsource of many serious complica tions. If Pulsatilla becomes\nineffective, then Sepia may help. However, Pulsatilla and Sepia can\nonly be effective before the onset of the infection (i.e. puerperal\nsepsis). Once the in fection develops, Sulphur and Pyrogenium 200\nhappen to be the best standard remedy.\n\nDuring lactation in Sepia woman menstruation usually ceases, while\nthey are irregular in Calc Carb. The vaginal discharge of a Sepia\nwoman is acidic in nature, causing neuralgic pain.\n\nModerate physical exercise aggravat es the symptoms of Sepia while t\nstrenuous exercise offers relief.\n\nIn Sepia, the hands and feet tend to be numb . Malarial fever of\nunpredictable timing may be made to behave more timely with Sepia\ntherapy. In addition, the diagno sis as to the most appropriate\ntreatment needed may also be establ ished. If the pati ent is of Sepia\nconstitution then Sepia itself will affect the cure.\n\nThe eyesight becomes weak , due to weakness of the eye muscles.\nBlack spots (floaters) seem to be dancing before the eyes. The eyes\nbecome inflamed due to the general weakness and the diseases of the\nuterus. The eyelids become swolle n and baggy. Lumps form behind\nthe ears, near the neck. In some patients, yellow spots may form on\nthe skin. The tongue is coated white. Taste of the mouth is salty. The\npatient relishes sour things and fe els extremely weak and exhausted.\nThe patient becomes nauseated at the smell of f ood; more so while\nlying on the side.\n\nAdjuvants: Natrum Mur, Nux Vomica, Phosphorus\nPotency: 30 and higher.
