Dryness \nof throat. Tracheal and bronchial irritation of smokers. Pulmonary symptoms, cough, loud, hollow, ending with \nexpectoration (Phel.). Purulent infiltration. \nStonham noted that in advanced tuberculosis when Stann-i. has not taken effect, an additional dose of iodine \nin milk caused the drug to have its usual beneficial effect.\nCOMMENTS - O. S. Haines considered Stann-i. especially indicated where the patient \u201chas a clear complexion \nand long eyelashes and where the progress of the disease is rapid.\u201d He used the  2x trituration. \nM. D. Youngman found it a deeply act ing drug, chiefly of value in chronic chest diseases characterized by \nplastic tissue changes. Stann-i. is indicated in cases that \u201chang fire\u201d and need an \u201calterative.\u201d \nYoungman gave the keynote, \u201cA pers istent inclination to cough. Cough excited by a tickling dry spot in the \nthroat, sometimes in one place, sometimes in another often apparently at root of tongue.\u201d  \nThis cough, which begins as a weak- sounding cough, accompanied by shortness of breath. The c ough soon \ngathers strength and sound and induces raising of a free, copious, pale yellowish expectoration, which at first \naggravates. Bu f is soon followed by a feeling of dryness, weakness in throat and chest and increased \noppression. \nAn inveterate smoker, who had a cough of this kind, said it came from his throat and ascribed it to his smoking. \nYoungman found consolidation areas in the middle of the right lung. There was weak feeling in chest after \ncoughing. \nStann-i. 3x trituration, greatly relieved.
