## Keynote Indications
Clarke found no appreciable difference between the action of Tub. and that of Bac. His own
impression was that they are practically identical and that one will answer to the indications of the other. The
first provers were tuberculosis patients and only pathogenetic symptoms are recorded. Tub. 30c was used.
Tub. affects the mind, lungs, head, oc ciput, glands and larynx. When symptoms are constantly changing and
well-selected remedies fail to improve. Relapsing states. Patient always tired, motion causes intense fatigue,
aversion to work, wants constant changes.
Tubercular miasm. In tuberculosis where the symptoms are constantly changing and begin suddenly,
ceasing suddenly or of obscure nature. Early stage tuberculosis.
Always tired, motion causes intense fatigue. Increasing exhaustion and lowered vitality. Weakness, emaciation
with good appetite. Rapid breakdown of health. General exhaustion. Nervous weakness. Neurasthenia.
Fainting. Trembling, quivering. Epilepsy. Nervous children. Mentally deficient children.
Tendency tocatch cold easily, on slightest exposure, which ends in diarrhea. Diarrhea in children running

and spicy foods. Craves variety in food. Diarrhea.
Better in the mountains, in pine forests. Desire for open air, particularly with respi ratory conditions. Better
motion, activity, exercise (Rhus-t.). Worse cold, damp with cold hands and feet.

(Med. is unconscious, more confused). Characteristic desire to break things. Can bite or mutilate themselves.
Insanity. Fear of wasting their life, their time, of not accomplishing something significant before they die. Fear
of dying or despair over their recovery. Dislike of dogs and cats, severe allergies to cats.
Nebel used Tub. in exactly the same way as Burnett; others have used Bac., on the indications Burnett laid
down and with Burnett’s results.
In 1892, Arnuphy began giving Tub. 6x and 8x trituration in acute and chronic tuber culosis cases, with
encouraging success, but with undesired aggravations at times. These were avoided with 12x and 30x.
In one case, originating in influenza, both apices were affected, the right one breaking down and abundant
pleuritic effusion on the left side. Six weeks’ t reatment with Tub. brought about recovery. When seen a year
later, the patient was quite well except for retraction of the left side.
Arnuphy frequently used Tub. for bron chitis, catarrhal pneumonia, lobular pneu monia, tubercular pleurisy,
parenchymatous nephritis and influenza. He gave two cases of acute lobular pneumonia with characteristic

symptoms and high temperatures quickly resolved by Tub.
One case concerned a boy, 3, who received the 12x; the other was a man, 78, who suf fered from chronic
bronchial catarrh. The latter was taken with influenza, pneumonia developed and he was in a very serious
state. Tub. 30x made an almost immediate change for the better and recovery followed.
Arnuphy related that, in this case, an abundant perspiration took place (the skin had been dry) during the night
and he observed this in all cases of pneumonia when Tub. acted favorably.
Clarke found Tub. 30c, 100c, 200c and 1000c the best general antidote to the chronic effects of influenza
poisoning.
A curious use of Tub. was made by Jau- regg of Vienna in a case of insanity. He had observed that cases of
insanity are always benefited by an attack of an acute infectious disease, especially if it is accompanied with
high fever. The idea then occurred to him to utilize the fever produced by Koch's Tuberculinic injections.
He tried it on some patients and though the favorable symptoms soon disappeared after the fever subsided,
there remained a steady clearing of the confused sensorium. Insanity is very frequently a manifestatio n of the
tuberculosis miasm and there is something more than a pyrexial power in Tub.
