## Keynote Indications
The Vario, nosode is prepared from lymph from a smallpox pus tule. It has proved as an
efficient preventive against smallpox and vaccinial infection. Vario, is used for bad effects of vaccinations.
Seems to be efficacious in protecting against, modifying and aiding in the cure of smallpox.
Vario, was Burnett’s chief remedy in shingles, it generally, as he expressed it, wiped out the disease, eruption
and pain as well. It will also cure neuralgia left by herpes. Vario, has aborted many cases of smallpox and has
proved an efficient preventive against smallpox contagion and vaccinosis infection.
The keynote symptoms of Vario, are the defining symptoms of smallpox. Severe cold, chill, chilly creepings as
if cold water were trickling down the back, violent fever with extremely hot skin, with or without high pulse.
Violent headache.
General aching in the muscles worse in back, occiput and legs. Nausea. Pain in epigastrium. Pain in limbs as
if in bones. Severe backache. There may be rash or there may not. Calcareous deposits in the blood vessels,
spinal cord. etc.
COMMENTS - Nonspecific shingles (Rhus- t.). Neuralgic pains without defining char-

acteristics. Tendency to herpes, or acutely for herpes zoster or simplex. Acne, with yellow pus, leaving scars
and large pock marks (Calc-s.).
G. M. H. recorded the experience he had concerning Vario. 6c given to the mother and children of a family,
one of whose members was taken with smallpox and removed to an isolation hospital with his mother to nurse
him.
The patient (who did not receive Vario.) was dangerously ill for a month. Neither the mother who n ursed him
nor any of the other children caught smallpox.
Vaccines were sent by the government, and all the family were vaccinated, but it did not take with any of those
who had taken V ario., although the vaccination was repeated.
Moreover, G. M. H. himsel f, who had taken a dose of Vario., submitted to vaccina tion, but “although four
thorough inoculations were given, they healed up immediately and did not even itch or smart.”
A school of two hundred children were “in ternally variolated” with Vario. (100, 000c, Swan) on the evening of
February 18th and the morning of February 19th. Of two school mistresses, one was not at all affected, the
other was ill for two days in bed.
On February 21st many of the children were ill, by the 23rd, all except forty were. The symptoms were the usual
preliminary symptoms of smallpox, and later, Swan found pustules on many.
After the varioloid had passed off, but before the patients had recovered their vital ity, twenty-three children
were vaccinated without Swan’s knowledge. All but one took and had terrible ulcers on the arms and had to
be remedied by Vac. (100,000c, Swan).
Temperature - As of cold water trickling down the back. Violent chill. Hot fever with intense, burning, radiating
heat. Tympanites, pouting upwards, looks pregnant.
