Amanita muscaria, Fly Agaric, Agaric.
The mental state is marked by extreme excitability, alternating with apathy. The patient may exhibit loquacity, singing, and talking, followed by a state of depression. There is a tendency toward foolish behavior, delirium with desire to prophesy, and an inability to concentrate. It is indicated for choreic patients who exhibit restlessness and irritability.
Agaricus Muscarius acts profoundly on the cerebro-spinal nervous system, producing a state of excitation followed by depression. It is characterized by twitching, spasms, and tremors. It is a primary remedy for chorea, tics, and paralytic conditions. Its keynote is the sensation of ice-cold needles pricking the skin and the distinctive chilblains that are red, swollen, and intensely burning/itching. It addresses conditions arising from frostbite, spinal irritation, and nervous exhaustion.
Aggravation: From cold air, cold weather, before a thunderstorm, after eating, after coitus, and pressure on the spine. Amelioration: From moving about slowly, from warmth, and by moderate exercise.
Vertigo is typically felt while walking in the open air, causing the patient to stagger or fall backward. It is often accompanied by a sense of intoxication or confusion, particularly when turning the head or moving quickly.
Headache is characterized by a sensation as if the head were being pierced by needles of ice. There is a feeling of coldness in the head, often accompanied by pain in the vertex. The scalp is sensitive to touch, and there may be twitching of the muscles of the forehead.
There is a marked twitching of the eyelids (blepharospasm). Vision may be blurred or double (diplopia). The eyes feel weak, and there is a sensation of flickering before the vision. The margins of the lids are often red and inflamed.
The ears feel cold and may be affected by chilblains. There is a sensation of itching and burning in the external ear, accompanied by noises or ringing (tinnitus) that worsen in cold air.
The face exhibits twitching, tremors, or spasmodic jerking of the facial muscles. There may be a sensation of stiffness or crawling (formication) in the skin of the face. The lips are often dry, cracked, or affected by nervous twitching.
The nose is prone to redness, itching, and burning, especially in cold weather. There may be a frequent desire to sneeze, with a thin, watery discharge or a feeling of obstruction.
The tongue may be coated white or yellow and may be tremulous. There is a bitter or metallic taste in the mouth. The teeth may feel loose or sensitive, and the gums may bleed easily.
The throat exhibits a sensation of constriction or a lump that cannot be swallowed. There is often a dry, tickling cough originating from irritation in the throat, which is worse after eating.
The chest symptoms include a dry, hacking cough that is aggravated by cold air or after eating. There is a sensation of oppression and heart palpitations, often with a feeling of weakness in the cardiac region. The respiration may be irregular or spasmodic.
The stomach shows a lack of appetite, or an intense, voracious hunger. There is significant bloating, flatulence, and a sensation of weight in the abdomen. Stools may be soft, loose, or accompanied by intense rectal itching.
Urinary symptoms include frequent desire to urinate, often with a weak stream. In the genital sphere, there is increased sexual desire, often followed by profound weakness after coitus. It is useful for spasmodic pain in the uterus.
The extremities are prone to tremors, twitching, and a feeling of heaviness. The most striking symptom is the presence of chilblains on fingers and toes, which are red, swollen, and burn intensely. There is a lack of coordination in walking, with a tendency to stumble.
There is a characteristic sensitivity of the spine to touch, particularly between the vertebrae. Pains are often described as shooting or electric-like. Stiffness in the neck and back is common, worsening after sitting for long periods.
The skin is characterized by intense burning, itching, and redness, particularly in the form of chilblains. There is formication (sensation of insects crawling under the skin) and sensitivity to cold air. The skin may appear mottled or bluish.
Sleep is often disturbed by jerking, twitching, and vivid or frightening dreams. The patient may wake up feeling unrefreshed or with a headache. There is a tendency for the body to jerk during the onset of sleep.
The patient is generally chilly and sensitive to cold air. Symptoms are consistently worse in cold, damp weather and better in warmth. The nervous system is hypersensitive, leading to various spasmodic affections and a general state of debility.
Calcarea carbonica and Tuberculinum are considered complementary. Calcarea carbonica often follows Agaricus in cases of stunted growth or rachitic tendencies, while Tuberculinum may be required to clear the constitutional miasmatic base in chronic nervous disorders.
Coffea cruda and Camphora are considered inimical. Coffea may increase the nervous excitability already present in the patient, while Camphora may counteract the therapeutic action of Agaricus when administered during the treatment period.
Calcarea carbonica, Phosphorus, and Pulsatilla follow Agaricus well. Phosphorus is indicated when respiratory or nervous exhaustion persists, and Pulsatilla is helpful in addressing the venous stasis and circulating disturbances after the initial spasmodic symptoms have subsided.
Cannabis indica, Hyoscyamus, Mygale, Tarentula.
