Etiology & Causes

Graves' disease is caused by an autoimmune response where the body produces autoantibodies against the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor. Etiological factors include:
Genetic Susceptibility: Linked to specific human leukocyte antigens (e.g., HLA-DR3, HLA-B8) and polymorphisms in immune-regulatory genes (CTLA4, PTPN22*).
